Barracuda News & Discussion VII

Watching the replay, the Reign player took advantage of the awkward position Bystedt was in and cross checked him in the midsection directly into the boards. It was totally unnecessary.

Here it is:

I thought it was shoulder when I saw him helped off (the hit was in a part of the ice I can't see very well), but looking at the replay, it does look like he's favoring his leg.

I had a good view from my seat there tonight. Bystedt unfortunately put himself in a bad spot in a physical game. He got tackled and probably tore something in the knee; from the referee's gesture to Vincent before the next faceoff, an interior ligament.

Musty looks pretty good.
I thought he showed flashes but overall looked overmatched. He was slow to react, struggled to know where to be, looked out of shape, and looked like the lightest player out there. He looked maybe 170 lbs soaking wet and was tentative with any contact.

I’m not discouraged at all. This is a step up for him and he will adjust.

It’s also probably real hard to be dropped into the middle of an AHL season. Which, more kudos to Graf and Lund for surviving their drop ins to the NHL.

Coachella Valley picked up a point losing in OT to the Gulls last night, which officially kills any chances of us having home ice in round 1 (Firebirds have a tiebreaker on us and we're four points behind them, there's no way for us to pass them in the standings).

So this weekend's games against Calgary are just finding out whether we finish in 5th or 6th. As things look right now, 5th will probably face Coachella Valley in the first round, 6th will face one of Abbotsford or Ontario. And yeah, I would much rather face the Firebirds than one of those two.

Right now it's us and Calgary tied at 79 points on the season, but Calgary having the tiebreaker over us means they're currently in 5th, and we'll need to put up more points than them this weekend (i.e. a split means we remain in 6th).

They announced these during the last game of the season. No real surprises. Anthony Vincent winning back to back "hard hat" awards for the team says it all for me, bring that guy back.
