Barracuda News & Discussion VII

I feel like the Vincent - Vanroboys - Sabourin line has been the only one that has looked consistently decent over the last five games or so. Glad they all got rewarded with goals tonight

I also just added a video of the Sabourin fight for anyone who wants to see that (here). Wasn't exaggerating, they drop the gloves and then Sabourin just destroys the poor dude.

Fourth line's fingerprints were all over this game. MacDonald never returned after that hit he took from Vanroboys/Sabourin, either.

Scoring-wise:
Sabourin 1G 2A
Vincent 1G 2A
Vanroboys 1G 1A

Really nice to get that production out of them.

Colorado scores with 9 seconds left in the first on a delayed penalty. One-timer off a seam pass. We are so poor at defending those.

Was a real uneventful period until then. Shots are just 9-6 Colorado. Askarov looks healthy.

... the Barracuda, by some fluke, get a 2 on 0 while shorthanded. Giles passes to Regenda, who whiffs on it. We don't even get a shot off. Sometimes you just have to shake your head.

Ten minutes left and the Barracuda still trail by 1, but are really struggling to get any offensive pressure going against this Eagles team.

The angle Colorado uses for the highlights on their videos is really jarring to me, but whatever.

A split for this weekend's games is a good thing, but even though the Barracuda were only down 1 for most of tonight's game, I never felt like we were close to tying it up.

The good news: Askarov looked solid tonight, Bystedt is also playing well after returning from injury.

Are all three UFAs this summer. I see only Sabourin on puckpedia (he is), as I'm guessing the other two are on AHL only contracts or something? You've been quite positive on them all year, seems like they'd be a worth retaining?

With Lund, Cherny, Musty, and Halts added to the mix (all likely more top 9 guys), lot of wingers coming up, but might be nice to have a veteran tone-setting 4th line. I'm curious if Pohlkamp will also be showing up. Our RHD is pretty light.

I think we could let Sabourin go. His offense has dwindled a little bit (though he is playing on a much deeper team this season) and he commands a pretty high AHL salary. He'll be 33 at the start of next season. But I wouldn't complain if he was back. Such an effective enforcer, and he's mostly kept his temper in check this year, which was what soured me on him in 23-24.

Vincent is the guy I 100% want back. He's such a unique agitator that gets teams off their game and one of the hardest workers on the team. Vanroboys has been a pleasant surprise and he adds more than just sandpaper to the lineup- he's one of our best faceoff guys and a good net front presence.

It's hard to find good AHL fourth line guys, so I think we should hang onto them if we can.

I originally thought we could've qualified for playoffs this weekend with the way results went, but it turns out that our magic number at the start of the weekend was based on Tucson losing out, not Bakersfield. So it's 3. But that's still really close to getting that X that's eluded us for years.

Abbotsford is becoming the team I want to avoid in the first round. Not just because of that beatdown they gave us last weekend. They've now won 13 in a row, winning both games this weekend against Laval, who has the best record in the AHL. Though at the rate they're going, they could easily win the division.

We keep flip-flopping with the Wranglers for the #5 spot, but we have a game in hand on them, and also finish the season with two games @ Calgary.

Great to see musty get some pro experience.... What about chernyshov? Wonder if they are gunna bring him in as well? I havent heard anything...

In some ways, to me, he is an even more exciting prospect given his sheer size and domination in the O this year. I am jazzed to see these two in a pro uniform for the remainder of the year.

Too bad london is so good. Woulda been nice to see dick and Haltunnen in a cuda uni as well.

Overflowing with hope at four 6'2+, 200lb+ guys coming so soon! I really wanna see how they do against men, even if in the A.

I’ve watched a bit less of the Cuda this year, does McCarthy deserve another year? Graf and Muk looked pretty good after getting called up later in the season, which is a good sign for him. After last season I figured he would be let go this summer.

I think McCarthy’s done a decent job developing players, but he hasn’t really figured out how to put together winning systems, and that's what gets frustrating for me as a fan of this team. We get outworked and sometimes struggle against something as simple as a heavy forecheck, and even with the team making the playoffs this year I feel like we could be a lot better.

But I'm pretty sure the Sharks value the development more than they do the Barracuda's W-L record.

I think Grier REALLY values playoffs, though. I guess McCarthy will achieved that but I wonder if he’ll keep his job if it’s an early round exit or they just play poorly.

Meanwhile ahead of our game with them tomorrow Coachella Valley has added Carson Rehkopf and Nathan Villeneuve to their roster, couple of their second rounders who haven't played AHL hockey yet.
Villeneuve is an honest to goodness psycho and I wouldn't put it past him to run a guy in his first pro game just to make a point. Hope he doesn't debut until after that game tbh.
