Barracuda News & Discussion VII

I went back and listened for any info on Bystedt in pregame and all Nollenberger said was that he will sit today. Guess I'll see if he's in tomorrow. I have been down on him lately but wasn't expecting him out of the lineup altogether.

The reason we were shorthanded at the end of the game was a crosscheck by Mukhamadullin. It was a weak one, but it was there. The penalty before that was a little more questionable, as Poturalski and Blandisi got into it after Blandisi pushed Poturalski into his own goalie, somehow Poturalski got 4 and Blandisi got 2. The Mukhamadullin call is why we were shorthanded going into OT, though. That penalty had just expired when the winner went in. Refs were letting a lot of stuff go and then suddenly they weren't anymore.

Ah well, we get them again tomorrow. Our games with them this season feel like complete toss-ups.

I admit, while I've never been down on him, I've never been wowed by TB either.

He's an all-situation player and his defensive work's still good. But lately he is producing nothing offensively. Turns the puck over constantly, has no points in his last six games. Sometimes seems like he's trying to make the tough pass instead of the simple one.

It's not something that has me concerned about the long-term picture, but I have not felt like he's contributing the way we need him to right now.

I found it odd that everyone else, Graf, Cardwell, Sabourin... all got called up at some point, but not Bystedt. Even with Sturm out longterm you would think it wouldn't be a bad time to give him a look, but I guess there's no possibility.

Anthony Vincent opens the scoring with kind of a fluky goal. Vanroboys finally gets his first assist on the year.

Toronto then throws a fit on the following face off and takes a penalty.

Just to clear up the Bystedt thing (kind of), in pregame they did say he's out with an "undisclosed injury."

The Cardwell goal got reviewed and I wasn't sure why until I saw the replay, it went Cardwell -> Regenda's foot -> Cardwell's foot -> net. That goal mostly happened because that group got pinned in the defensive zone after an icing for a long time and finally just got a rush the other way, hence why Cardwell was out with Poturalski and Regenda.

I've liked the Marlies games, they're back and forth affairs and Toronto's a good challenge for us. Carriere was pretty solid in net.

Poturalski had two assists, and he's now leading the AHL in points by a decent margin. He's got 44 points, second place is Dryden Hunt (CGY) with 40. The other Barracuda player with two assists today: Tristen Robins.
