Barracuda News & Discussion VII

During the week off, the Barracuda slid to 5th place in the division, but there's a two point difference between 2nd and 5th. It's tight between those four teams. Abbotsford's won four straight.

We scored 12 goals on the Canucks during the last two games we played against them.

He's not listed as having played a game yet. And it was only last week I think that he was cited as being in San Jose (possibly for final health checks and rehab completion or whatever). But he is supposed to finish the season with Saginaw.

He got sent down to the Cuda last week and then just today got assigned to Saginaw. I'm guessing they sent him down because the Sharks were going on a road trip and the assignment with the Barracuda would allow him to remain here in San Jose and still with the org.

Haven't seen us use an assignment like that before, but it was a good idea if that was the reasoning.

Colin White finally back from injury.

Bordeleau didn't make trip, is ill. Lot of illness going around.

Mitchell Russell draws into the lineup, and Houle gets a bump up to the second line. And yes, Mukhamadullin is in.

But, Flohockey is still down, so no way to watch this one as of yet.

Surprisingly hot-tempered first period, considering we don't really have any history with these guys. Jack Thompson came in on net and put a weak backhand on net on a breakaway, for some reason a Canuck put him into the boards for it and Sammy Blais took a penalty for punching Cardwell in the ensuing scrum.

Justin Bailey and Friedman have been going after each other. Sabourin and Jett Woo just got into it, as well.

Bailey goes to the box for a cross-check on Friedman (chasing him down on a two on one) and Linus Karlsson redirects an Erik Brannstrom shot to make it 1-0 Abbotsford.

Another redirected puck gets by Romanov to make it 2-0 midway through the second.

Frustrating, annoying game to watch thus far. Lot of penalties and Abbotsford is bringing physicality and doing well at disrupting our breakout.

But- right after I say that, Anthony Vincent scores again on a rebound from Jimmy Schuldt. 2-1 now.

Bailey misses a wide open net on the PP and then takes his third minor penalty of the game. Not his finest hour. Least this one was a coincidental.

Great work by White making that chance, though. He's looked good in his return.

Sammy Blais puts Jimmy Schuldt into the boards and the pane of glass goes into the crowd. Wasn't really that bad of a hit. 1:33 left in the second, so it looks like we're just going to go to the back and play the remainder of the second after the intermission.

We're not out of this by any stretch, but our play so far has been lacking.

Tie game. Wow, that was a weird sequence.

Brannstrom goes to the box for interfering with Vincent. On the ensuing faceoff, Elias Pettersson accidentally high-sticks his own teammate and takes him out of the play and on the makeshift 5-on-3, Cagnoni scores. Cagnoni's first point in nine games.

Abbotsford is livid but I can't figure out what their argument is here.

It'll sound strange to say this about a 3-2 game, but there were so many things we did poorly in this one.

Abbotsford brought the physicality and the defensive pressure and as a result our offense looked pretty harmless when we weren't on the power play. And then the power play failed to get any results, apart from that one from Cagnoni after that weird mess on the faceoff. 1 for 6 on the night.

Too many penalties. Even though Abbotsford was actually shorthanded more than us. Bailey was the biggest culprit, that guy took some stupid penalties in this one. I want to point the finger at Vincent too, but Vincent also played a part in both of our goals tonight (scored the first, drew the penalty that led to the second) and also drew I believe three penalties by himself.

Defended the transition game very poorly at times. You can just see it in the highlights above.

Basically, Abbotsford played their game, and won. So, figure some things out before tomorrow's game, please.
