Under no circumstances should Gushchin and Bordeleau be qualified. Their Cuda lineup spots belong to Musty and Halttunen next season.

You need to cycle through prospects quickly in a rebuild otherwise you risk limiting opportunities for the next batch.

Yeah, unless someone gets injured and they come in and really perform, I think their time here is done.

That said, Cuda isn’t like overflowing with forwards right now. I can see Graf, possibly Bystedt making the NHL team next season, so I think there’s room. But, generally, yeah, I think they’re done.

I fully expect us to sign Cam Lund after Northeastern’s season ends and for him to fill Graf’s role on the Cuda next year too.

What happens to Cagnonis offense?

No points in the last seven after scoring almost a PPG before?

He just looks a little less explosive as of late. It's his first pro season, not too unusual for the schedule to wear on him.

That said though, I mentioned the power play's struggles on the last page. Would help if they got going again. Lot of Cagnoni's production has come on the man advantage.

We don’t have that many incoming forwards to be that concerned with Cuda spots. We have like five or six forwards under contract next year with Musty, Halttunen, Bystedt, Poturalski, and Cardwell. If Lund signs what else is there really to bring in off the reserve list? Hell, two of those guys could start with the Sharks next season so I don’t think qualifying both of them for another year is a bad option to take. They don’t have to if they have other options in mind but I don’t think there’s some new batch of prospects to be concerned with yet.

The five names you listed all need to be playing top six and ideally top PP unit minutes next season without even accounting for the possibility Graf needs more time in the AHL or Lund comes in and starts killing it. Why would we keep one-way smurfs like Bordeleau and Gushchin to either cannibalize these younger prospects' offensive opportunities or play a defensive role that they're not suited for? It's much smarter to just sign a couple Bailey-type AHL vets who know their place and can provide leadership.

tbh, I don't know how you project a Barracuda roster for next year at this point. Some guys are going to get moved out at the deadline, we might gain some prospects via trade, we'll probably add some more tryouts. Next season is something I'd start to look at post-deadline at earliest.

I know we're in a rebuild so people here are constantly in "look ahead to next year" mode but down here in the AHL we're having the best season we've had in ages. Dunno why I'd be concerned about who we're going to be icing next year when there's plenty to enjoy this year.

I don't pay much attention to the Wichita Thunder, I'll just check the box scores now and then to see how the few guys we have down there are doing (With the exception of Carriere, nobody is doing anything all that amazing on the scoresheet). Haven't watched a single game of theirs. But I was taking a glance at our contract situation and noticed something that I thought was a website error. It's not. I'm a little surprised I've seen nothing about this from anyone else.

Folks, Artem Guryev has been playing left wing all season. Puckpedia actually lists him as a forward now.

Maybe but nothing is set in stone. Again, two of those five could be in the NHL next season. It makes sense for Cardwell to fill a 4th line spot if we rent Kunin out. Musty has the size and talent to take a top nine winger spot too. We just don’t know yet. I just don’t get the rush to dispose of players we could use for depth even if it doesn’t get used. If we become oversaturated with forwards, an AHL trade is doable. With only a few players fairly certain to be in the AHL next year, it’s okay to wait it out before making any sweeping decisions. There’s already going to be plenty of openings.

I’m not so worried about projecting the Cuda lineup as it will take care of itself and there’s a lot of expiring contracts to work through. I just don’t see many incoming outside of Lund and maybe Chernyshov with Musty and Halttunen where at least Musty will be given a longer look next training camp. I’m just not going to be so quick to let go of reasonably successful AHL talents unless we need the spots which I don’t see as the case currently.
