Yeah, at 1:25 you can see Grainger on the ice- he'd had the puck in his possession and slipped, so he panicked, flailed and pushed it up the boards. But nobody was even pressuring him! Gave it right over to them for no reason. We'd been great up until that point and Colorado got some momentum off that.

Third period was just awful refereeing and not a lot of Cuda pressure. Refs ignored a bunch of clutching, grabbing and interference all game and then called us for 50-50 plays and insignificant crap all through the third. Really frustrating watch.

Dell was actually pretty decent, made a few good saves. Doesn't move side to side as well as our other goalies, that's for sure.

Any thoughts on Jimmy Schuldt and Ethan Frisch?

Obviously at 30 Schuldt is past prospect status but he does have an NHL contract.

Frisch is interesting because he signed an AHL deal after playing college hockey. While not putting up many points, he seems like a steadying influence for the more offensively inclined defensemen and the team is much-improved.

Ethan Frisch mentioned!

I make it no secret that I freaking love Ethan Frisch. He's a steady defensive defenseman who just makes a career out of doing the basic defensive things well. He blocks shots, he strips pucks, he closes guys out along the boards, he gets the puck out of the zone. Oh and hey, he's right-handed. If they signed him to an ELC one day I'd 100% be behind the move. He's the sort of guy you appreciate if you just spend shifts watching what he does.

But now let me tear him back down: He cannot break out the puck in a way that leads to any offensive pressure. His usual breakout move is to fling it as hard as he can at whoever's in front of him to avoid icing. He can't really pass worth a damn. He has a good shot but has trouble getting it through traffic. And he's not very big, so he can't clear the net that well. So he has some good tools, but even as one of his biggest fans I struggle to say "He needs to be in the NHL." It's more like I'd like to see him continue to be under contract with the org.

Jimmy Schuldt I've got less to say about, just because he is what he is. He is great in his role, and that's probably what he'll be doing the rest of his career, i.e. defensive leadership in the AHL. He and Carlsson were exactly the sort of signings this Barracuda team needed to take a step forward. And it's not going to be the last team he signs with for the same role.

3-0 Barracuda after one period, feels like it could’ve been even more. Robins has been terrific. Only thing not going well is the power play, which has been awful. Shots 15-4 SJ.

Colorado wants to kill Anthony Vincent, but what else is new.

At this rate, I am fully expecting a fight.

There were a lot of good scoring chances but I agree the PP did not look good.

I don't like the fact that we keep letting opponents back into games, but at least we're able to close them out.

I liked what we did with the lines, i.e. we listed Bordeleau and Cardwell as the extra forwards, so you'd see them get sent out with Poturalski, or with Bystedt, etc, as a scoring line. Way better idea than having Vanroboys-Vincent-X as line 4, opens up some new looks.

Don't remember seeing Coe for the second half of the game.

Vanroboys scored his eighth goal of the season today, when we signed this guy I was not at all thinking "double digit goal scorer" but he just keeps finding the net. But I also wanted to mention his stats for the season in 31 games, because they're wacky: 8 goals, 0 assists. Not a single helper so far. That's wild. This while also being second on the team in +/- (+10, behind only Schuldt) and leading the team in PIMs. And yes, his team-leading shooting percentage (27.6%) is probably helping a bit.

We're in second place in the Pacific, 7 points behind the Calgary Wranglers, but it feels like we've been 5 to 7 points behind Calgary all season long. It's tight up there, though, Ontario and Coachella Valley are one point behind us, and Colorado is three behind us.

Gushchin doesn't have great numbers. Bordeleau's are getting better. Bystedt has dropped off a little...

It’s sad but I think Goose is likely done here. I don’t really see a spot for him and he didn’t pop in the NHL like I had hoped. Graf came in and immediately showed he belonged… I can see Goose being part of a trade or just leaving to Russia.

I think it’s likely the same case for Bordeleau but he seems to be doing a bit better in the AHL and I can see him maybe getting one last shot in the NHL if there are some injuries.

Bystedt I’m not worried about - they’re teaching him how to be a shut down 3C so he’s focusing on defense right now, I suspect.

Cuda power play hasn't been amazing of late, and the recent Gushchin injury caused McCarthy to change the PP1 unit to have both Carlsson and Cagnoni on first unit, along with Poturalski, Bystedt, Robins. I was surprised he put Robins onto PP1 until I saw him play this past weekend, because Robins might've been our best forward for parts of Sunday's game. Robins hadn't looked right after that minor injury he suffered in October and went on a month and a half long cold streak. Was starting to wonder if he'd ever get going again.

Glad he is, because our forward unit is really thin right now. No Graf, no Gushchin, no White. We've gone 11F/7D lately, and I fully understand why. McCarthy doesn't really seem to want to play Coe even when he does dress him. Hopefully Gushchin's back in the lineup soon.

Under no circumstances should Gushchin and Bordeleau be qualified. Their Cuda lineup spots belong to Musty and Halttunen next season.

You need to cycle through prospects quickly in a rebuild otherwise you risk limiting opportunities for the next batch.

One or both will end up being throw in contracts going the other way at the TDL when we trade for more bloated contracts from other teams.
