The AHL app bizarrely sent out a notification that Chromiak scored an OT winner about two minutes in, and the stream's scorebug changed the score to 5-4. He'd shot the puck on net, but it was a pretty routine save from Romanov. Strange error from someone.

Shootout:
SJ: Gushchin (X), Poturalski (X)
ONT: Kaliyev (✓), Ward (✓)

Reign take it.

Romanov made some huge saves to keep us in it.

Not Barracuda news, but ex-Barracuda news that I just saw:

Scott Reedy has joined the Milwaukee Admirals. I'm thrilled to see that, he hasn't played hockey in nearly a year and I wondered if whatever injury sidelined him last season was a career ender. He's back.
I liked him and was hoping he'd turn into something.

Glad people like it. I've been following this team ten years now and had felt like the AHL is a blind spot for a lot of people, so I really got dug in here, and I've wound up getting really familiar with a lot of players who are pretty much afterthoughts in our org. These are my guys, I want the best for all of them. I'll always have something positive to say for anyone who's down here*. Even in the down years.

The 2016-17 team was probably better than this one, just on-ice quality-wise, but this season's team might be my favorite group I've followed. The games have been fun, there's such an interesting mix of player styles/personalities on our roster, I'm a fan of our whole defensive unit for the first time in ages, and we get to watch Askarov do his thing. This season's been a blast so far. I had forgotten what it's like to support a hockey team that actually wins games.

*Except Ryan Merkley, I mean Jesus Christ.

(I might be trying to summon up some reverse jinx magic with this post)

There's three guys whose play has cooled off a bit as of late, which you might not notice as much because others are getting hot at the same time. But the connection between the three of them: They're all in their first full pro season in North America.

It's Bystedt, Cagnoni and Graf. Just from my own eye test: Bystedt has lately looked like he's trying to do too much with the puck and is noticeably turning the puck over frequently, Cagnoni is still looking good in the offensive zone but hasn't been as explosive, and Graf is much less noticeable than he was at the start of the year, just in general. I mean, you can even just see it strictly in point totals:

Bystedt: 2 points in last 7 games
Cagnoni: 2 points in last 6 games
Graf: 3 points in last 10 games, all of which were scored in one game

Not really a cause for concern though IMO, slumps are going to happen in your first year. Would be great if everyone was playing well at the same time though, eh?

Offensive slack's been getting picked up by guys like Bordeleau (3G 2A in last 4GP), Carlsson (2G 3A in last 5GP) and Cardwell (1G 5A in last 3GP). Cardwell specifically is on an absolute tear right now, he must've had three or four breakaways in the last couple games. But I wouldn't really be shocked to see some movement in lines/PP units. Maybe Carlsson to PP1 over Cagnoni for a bit? Lucas Carlsson's finally starting to become the player that was advertised when we signed him. Bystedt got briefly moved down to the third line in the last game, but I doubt that'll stick as it doesn't seem like Robins is in favor at the moment.

Hasn't been any roster movement yet, I'm assuming Frisch is ready to go after his... dental? issues the other day, and we'll see what happens with the goalie situation.

(Edit: And right when I post this, they recall Askarov)

End of one, 1-1. Obviously, bad start, but we had a good period after that.

Coachella Valley should probably avoid going to the box going forward, we went 1-2 on the man advantage but the PP is looking great tonight.

Cagnoni took a beating in that period, got hit from behind, and then towards the end he I think took a stick down low between his legs (it was in the corner, wasn't a great angle of it).

Cuda go onto their fourth power play, Gushchin buries a one-timer, assists to Graf and Poturalski. Three points for Poturalski tonight.

Firebirds then go back to the box AGAIN with a tripping call, they cannot get out of their own way.

Cuda have been doing well staying out of the box, but Bordeleau takes a bit of a weak goaltender interference call and Coachella scores on an easy tap-in rebound. 3-2.

Vincent then goes into the goaltender Stezka and Stezka actually takes exception and goes after him, Colin White yanks him off. No penalties on that at all, surprisingly.

Third period's underway, but it's just been seven minutes of both teams fumbling the puck around.

Firebirds take another penalty at the midpoint of the period, Ryan Jones holds Sabourin. Nice to see Sabourin drawing a couple penalties in this one.

Romanov with a HUGE glove save on a Hayden breakway after the Cuda turn the puck over on the blue line during that power play.

Game changer, as Coachella Valley then ends up taking a puck over glass penalty, and Graf tips a Cagnoni point shot into the net. 4-2 Barracuda.

Oh, and that's Graf, from Cagnoni and Bystedt.

Graf doesn't act like he tipped it, but it sure looked like he did.

Jake Furlong gets his first AHL goal, though it's the empty netter with five seconds left. (Edit: Oops, guess he didn't. Ethan Cardwell snaked it right at the end by touching it.) 5-2 is your final.

Big third period from Romanov. Good game from us.

It might've. They might change it well after the fact, but right now the scoresheet still says it's Graf's. I actually typed it as Cagnoni's goal and then edited it when they announced otherwise, everyone was sure acting like it was his.
