Barkov or Dubois

I don't see how Barkov is a real option. Going to rightfully cost a ton and then we have both our top centers up for UFA at the same time. Seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

No way you can keep Zib and Barkov along with what we are already paying Panarin.

PLD definitely seems at least more realistic to me, but even then I have trouble picturing how it works in a couple years when PLD is looking for a contract with numbers likely boosted by Panarin. At least he has a chance of coming in relatively cheap because of the situation in Columbus right now though.

Barkov is a better player by a quite large margin, almost impossible to trade for with that cap hit tho, and bound for a new a raise after 2 years. Barkov getting back to being underrated on this site again, he is one of the few players in the league that makes every team better rightaway, he is that well rounded.

Again, Barkov is a good fit like any 25-year-old PPG center would be. I don't see how he's a practical fit, though.

The ask for Barkov would be ridiculous. PLD is younger and perhaps cheaper to acquire ... but there’s a meaningful gap between the two players.

Rangers wouldn't be able to afford Barkov, and with Mika as the 1C, Dubois makes the better choice. Having him as the 2C gives huge depth.

I like PLD's game best. Barkov is a fantastic player, too.

Can we pay Barkov and Mika? I feel like you could extend Dubois for less than Barkov.

Either would be fantastic.

This is where I am. Barkov is the better player, but not the better fit for this team.

Barkov will cost more to extend than PLD. Cap is a consideration.

Barkov is currently 25 and will be UFA in 2 years. PLD is only 22 and has 4 years of RFA remaining. Age fits our core better, though both fit.

Barkov is elite defensively. PLD is good defensively. Mika is also good defensively. PLD, however is a bigger, meaner player, which I think this team would benefit from.

Barkov will win the poll because everyone wants the better player, but I think PLD is the better fit.

Shame this isn’t pre-cap b/c the Rangers could trade for an all-star team.

They're definitely different types of star center.

Reason I prefer Eichel is that I think with his style of game he's likely to have a much longer effective career. I could see Eichel playing at a high level well into his late 30's.

Eichel has cost certainty with the cap.....Barkov or Eichel require a ton of assets so go with cost certainty

I don't see coach Q 'allowing' Barkov to be moved any sooner than they have to (TDL before UFA)

although Florida's front office has typically been a mess

but when you spend, as they did, on Coach Q and Bob, there is a win-now element,
and short of snagging Bread or Zib, any Barkov deal will only weaken team in short term ...

The answer depends on cost, if cost is ballpark close, then Barkov.

I don't see Panarin dealt even if there were no NMC which per CF appears thru entire term of his deal.

Zib also has NMC but while I'm sure he'd prefer to stay he might consider waiving if he thought it was for mo $ than we can afford to allocate for him, also to a tax free state.

Either one guts us too much.

Our focus should be on getting down to lean essential core, i.e, move Deangelo, Strome, Buch and Geo for futures.

Those futures could be a base w/Zib which allows us to best proceed forward.
^ for Barkov
Dubie brother most in demand will cost less but still cost plenty\

From an age and growth perspective, PLD is the logical fit.

From an ability perspective, Barkov and its really not that close.

Barkov can become a group III free agent on on July 1, 2022. That is assuming we have a normal 2021-22 season. That is not a very long time from now. The Panthers will need to make a decision with Barkov in the near future. If Bill Zito can not get Barkov signed to a long-term contract extension by this off-season, Florida will need to move the player. The Panthers will get less the more they wait.

Barkov will be 27 before the start of the 22-23 season. Will the Rangers re-sign Zibanejad? He has been a terrific player the last couple of seasons. He will be 29 at the start of his next contract. The Rangers will need to make the contract decision with Mika in the very near future too.

It will be tough to pay both Zibanejad and Barkov. They might able to pull it off in the first couple of years of their contracts but it will get tougher later on with a flat cap throughout the term of this CBA.
