Monty isn't just an X's and O's coach. He has a strong sense of connecting with players and getting the most out of their abilities. I'm not sure Bannister really had a knack for that.

Yeah, I have no desire to dump on Bannister. I think he wasn't terrible, and probably would have grown into a serviceable option. But Montgomery is probably a Top 5 in the league guy. It was a ruthless move by Armstrong in some ways, but it made the team better now and in the future.
