Bakersfield Condors 24-25 thread

Bakersfield rental market is pretty much the same as Edmonton when you take the exchange rate into account

Bakersfield has historically been considered like, more or less the worst place in California. It’s really not too shabby but it’s nowhere near the coast. Loads of fresh produce though… I’d still rather live there than most places

Was looking at Savoie's stats and noticed something pretty crazy. In his last 27 games, he has only been a minus in 2 of the games. He has 29 points over that same span. Yeah plus/minus isn't a great stat, but that is pretty impressive, especially considering the amount of offence he produced over that same time frame. It also doubles down on the opinion of the AHL viewers, who consider him one of, if not the, best 200 foot players on the team this year.

There is a player here. He likely isn't a 30 goal scorer in the NHL, except on a remarkable year I guess. But I'll take a 15-20 goal guy who plays middle 6 winger time, on his ELC for he next 2 years, and doesn't give up much on D.

I wonder if he makes his way back up and stays in the lineup before the end of the regular season? Even if not he should be a lock for the team next season.

Jarventie apparently headed to Finland?

That means that once you get past Savoie, not one guy on the Condors is considered a legitimate NHL prospect.

Petrov is not having a good season?

Jarventie probably wasn't NHL bound anyway but wow, what skinny pickings on the farm.

That's why I hated how much Wright and Holland avoided the CHL.

They have some decent prospects in Beryozkin, Copponi, Jonsson, Yevseyev, Maatta, Munzenberger, etc, but when you draft like 90% of your guys from Europe and the NCAA, they're just going to play there until they're like 23/24 and the AHL team will be barren.

Barren is probably the word we are looking for.

We can talk all we like about the Oilers getting younger next season but it doesn't look promising when we ask who shall take their place? The only viable route seems to be free agency and that's been a solid "D" on the report card for years. As you say above, when you constantly pick guys at the college level or from Europe then look at the results.

I kind of like that Pracey tried to fix it a little bit by drafting Clattenburg and Wakely. I can't see them playing games for the Oilers next year, but at least they'll be a couple of actual prospects in Bako.

Hopefully they get the three NCAA guys signed and Jonsson comes over. That's a pretty big boost along with Akey graduating.

I don't have much faith in the Russians ever coming over.

Honestly though those are mostly late round picks that you are lucky if they even make the NHL.

It's very easy to backfill a "barren" AHL club. You sign guys that have finished up their CHL or NCAA career or look at Europe at some guys ready to give North America a shot.

Overall Holland neglected backfilling his prospect pool while he was trading away draft picks. I have no issues that we traded away all those 2nds or some 3rds and a 1st, but he had to be looking at other ways to add some prospects.

Everybody loves the Drake.

Always liked him and was happy when he was brought back. Guy brings a lot of stability to Bakersfield and plays the game in a way that you hope rubs off on some of the younger players.

Sure at the NHL level he just didn't have the total package to be a NHLer, but at the AHL level he's a great add.

That is not accurate. Go back the last 3 years and see how many UFA college and European signings have carved out even a decent pro career here in NA? The whole purpose of the AHL teams is to develop so signing older Europeans just to ice a team is pointless

Just for information here are the lists of current undrafted players in the NHL as well as those drafted in rounds 5-7.

Undrafted

Round 5

Round 6

Round 7

Pretty much every individual in any of these groups is a big longshot but overall the undrafted group wins this one by a fair bit in terms of actual NHL play. Now of course that is not quite the same as the debate you are having, but I thought it would be interesting to see the actual comparison.
