I woke up this morning with a Matt Savoie dream.

He gets inserted in the playoffs. First shift, we are playing the Stars. He gets the puck behind the Stars net, walks out from behind the net, and glides into the slot, holds, holds, holdssssss, shoots to pick the left bottom corner, but epic kick save by Oettinger. Oettinger on the ground now, rebound goes right back into Oettinger, net front scramble and chaos, other Oilers clear the net front of soft Stars. Savoie there the whole time hunting for the rebound.

Then I woke up, impressed by Savoies poise to walk out in front of the net for that chance, but confused as to why my dream didn’t let him score.

True story.

We need goals! Take a gummie next time you go to bed and see if that will get your dream to have him score.

shocked it is still standing
It will be a sad day for me when the old barn comes down. Lots of great memories in that place. I just wish the city had had better ideas of what to do with the property. So far their redevelopment plans seem to be going even worse than Blatchford. They also really seem to have no interest in NE Edmonton.

There is no chance that was going to happen. It would have taken hundreds of millions of dollars in renovations to make that work. The City has been pretty much committed to demolishing it since the new arena opened. I went to a public planning meeting before covid. It was a bunch of developers from Calgary trying to tell people about the neighborhood. They were totally out to lunch. The plan was completely unrealistic. And of course the City approved it.

Sad to see it go, but it's more than past time to get the job done. Costing taxpayers far too much money every year to keep it on life support.

No question that once it was decided it was coming down the sooner it happened the better. But I still doubt they will be able to do anything significant in terms of executing the plans for the area. My guess is that it will simply be an undeveloped eye sore for years to come. I hope they prove me wrong.

It's the city of Edmonton and their daft council we're talking about, so your prediction is likely correct.

They should just turn that site into condos and shops, kind of like what they're planning to do to Millwoods Town Center.

Here's the plan.

Let's see how the execution goes. My money is on not so good.

If they do it in the same time frame as the community at the old airport, we will all be long gone by the time it comes to fruition. Our grandchildren may have a chance of seeing it though.

The guys we spoke to at the "Final" Community Public Meeting were insisting that it would go very quickly and that the area would be highly desirable. That was five years ago and I believe they just passed the plans last year. I brought up the Blatchford plans and it seemed they were completely unaware of the project. (They were from Calgary). Lots of lofty ideas like beautiful affordable housing which is pretty much an oxymoron these days. They also had no idea it seems of what the surrounding area was like.

They expected Concordia to be a key anchor in the south east corner but as far as I know Concordia had no plans to expand there. They do seem to have a new building but it looks like it will be on the field north of the main campus.
