Post-Game Talk: Bagel City, Jets 4 - Stars 0, almost there

Just a lovely win. We still won't know until the puck drops in the playoffs but this team really seems different.

Such an even keel, business like execution of the systems game in and out. They have no problem with high stakes games, nay, they seem to thrive on them.

Nik looks like he's ready to be a real factor in the post season this year. 81 and 55 are dialled in and 9 is helping them spend less time trapped in their zone.

Hellebuyck is like a fine wine, just getting better with age

I actually didn't mind 5 and 64 together. Stan had a very steady game. I still think he hands onto the puck too long when he has full control in our zone which gets him in a bit of trouble.

JAD made such a sneaky good play that shows some real hockey smarts on Connor's goal, that touch pass from 55 to 81 was an elite play.

Pionk really showed very little rust. So nice to have that pair together again, now we have 3 pairs that can cause problems for our opponents.
Agree with all of your points in particular 9 with 55 and 81. I really like what Iafalo brings to that line especially making it a little "easier" in their own end. They might be a better line with Iafalo than Vilardi.
So, will the line stay togerher when Vilardi is ready to play? I think I already know the answer.

Was hoping kupari would grab that spot but he doesnt seem to have the decisiveness needed... i thunk barron would work really well with ehlers and perfetti - size, speed, d sense and drives to the net... reminds me of copp
Copp was the most contentious 2C here of all time. The Jets never believed in him there, even when he was getting decent results between Laine and Ehlers. He moved up the depth chart with some injuries. That's kind of how I see Barron's career going. I could see him replacing Lowry up the middle, as Lowry slows down, becomes more of a forechecking winger. Much how Copp was quite effective at replacing Lowry.

I really enjoy some of the Jets interviews with players, and it was nice to see Vlad say that Winnipeg felt like home the moment he arrived. Where a well travelled player finds a team that he sticks with.

If you had told me at the start of the year that Scheifele, Namestnikov, Lowry and Barron would be the centers on the best team in the league, I'd have doubted you.

In fact if you read the offseason, preseason threads this season has been about overcoming all the doubts of what makes a great team. With relatively good health as a fortune.

prime example of that was the 1st connor goal, schenn played it perfectly and we were able to recover from the turnover
Iafallo was back in position too, playing the defensive side of forward, and his outlet gave Scheifele the space to make Connor's sprint easier. I don't see how Arniel can take Iafallo off that top line, it gives him exactly what the line needs, a strong defensive player to transition to offense.

Don’t understand the post ? If the Jets see him more than a 4 th liner, I would think it bodes well for Barrons future here.
What gives you semblance they do?
The top 6 wing spots are occupied for a while, 1c is scheifele. 2C he's not gotten a sniff at all and Namestnikov is signed for multiple years, with Lambert and Yaeger behind him as recent 1st Rd prospects.

So given the contracts and the prospects, again if he thinks he can get a top 6 nhl role (which is heavily debatable in itself) and he's a year away from UFA I think he could be a casualty of opportunity. Not saying this does happen, but something to consider.

Who even knows when Vilardi will be ready. We are under week left until playoffs and he's not even on the ice yet. I doubt he's ready for game 1.

What a f**king clown. Ironically he looks like one too.

This year, moreso than previous years, it has really felt like we've been a team that just shuts things down in the 3rd if we have a lead.

We're now 40-0-1(!) when leading after two, so the results certainly seem to agree with your position.

(And 29-0-3 when leading after one. Imagine that -- not one regulation loss in any game we had a lead at any intermission)

Yeah, we gave them the 'big D' alright.

I guess it depends on how he plays, and he certainly could replace Appleton on the 3rd line, if not good enough for 2nd line center. When you get a guy that’s 6’4 - 220 lbs, and very fast, you want to keep him, if possible.

Great stuff -- only caught the condensed game, which is always edited to provde a more balanced view of the game -- and the Jets still looked dominant.

I'd love to see them take home the Conferencel Jennings and even Prez this year -- these are real and substantial achievements over an 82 game season, no matter what the Stanley or Nuttin!!! crowd say, and capture the essence of a team that has proved to be more consistent and, yes, perseviliant than ever before, despite the relative talent gap between this year and 2017-18.

Looking like an incredible near-end to an incredible season, Hats up and off.

I've enjoyed watching 54 wins and counting this season. Heck, even most of the losses where it was a good game I enjoyed. I'd like a deep playoff run but it's been a very entertaining season for me.
