I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think Stanley has been serviceable and playing much better since being scratched. We all know his struggles but I feel like he deserves some credit lately
Not totally unpopular at all there are many that hate him and some that like what he does, personally I'm with you he has been serviceable and the team is winning.

But we could say something very similar about putting AI there too. Though he doesn't have Vilardi's hands.

Another option would be to simply switch Volare and Perfetti. Perfetti would not play like Vilardi but he would still complement Scheif and Connor, playing 2 ways and creating scoring plays.

Meanwhile, maybe AI and Apples could be swapped.
I think the argument is that Villardi has more offensive potential and can be more than just a finisher offensively. KC/Schief just need someone to go to the net and play D not help them carry the offense.

mentioned this in the other thread, but out of him, tanev and appleton, the 3 bottom-6 UFAs: Id prioritize him over those 2 easily. but i think it's important to keep in mind when healthy, he's primarily 4th liner on this team. idk about 4M+ for a 4th liner and overpay on top of that. id have him around Namesntikov's 3M or under.

& at some point i think the Jets need to start considering the plans on some of their Fwd prospects too (the ones i have in mind are lucius, chibrikov, lambert, barlow, yaeger), as the top-6 is likely spoken for in the medium-term other than 1 spot (Namestnikov). & from accounts on here, Chibrikov is the only one who really has that 4-line versatility as opposed to top-6 or nothing.

By overpay I'm referring to something close to what he is getting now, not 4M+. We should be able to afford that under the new cap. Term is another issue though. You are correct to point out that we have a number of middle 6/bottom 6 F prospects getting close.

Is there another team in the NHL where he is a 4th liner? I think he plays 3rd line on most teams. If we want a team built on depth rather than star power then our depth players have to be very good - and paid accordingly.

I said the other day it looks like you *can* get better in the press box. As long as you're not left to rot there for months maybe.

The not being build on star players is an interesting point. After all, we do have star players who if not at the top of the league should be near it. Morrissey, the last few years has been a finalist for the Norrissey, Helly is looks like he is repeating at Venzina. Connor has been the top of the league in goal scoring and points. The last few games has knocked him down to 7th or something in points. Connor and Schief are 3rd and 4th in goals scored. Ehlers is pretty fantastic.

So we most likely have stars and depth. Key is how they play in playoffs as I think stars elevate their game to a higher level in the playoffs, but, if they do that...

If we move on from Apple Iafallo should go on the 3rd line. Whether we have more invested in our 3rd is a question. On the other hand, our best players are cheap compared to rest of league so does that mean we can do it? I mean the key is locking down Berg and Ehlers and seeing how much money there is to go around after that.

Yup ... Jets look like they can afford everyone but they have prospects who will be playing next year ... Lambert, Chibrikov and Salomonsson will be playing with the Jets at some point maybe not full time but they will get games in.
Just look at Dillon ... Jets had the money to pay him but no room for him in the top 4. You can't pay top 4 D or top 6 money to play bottom 2 D or bottom 6 if you want to be a contender.

We have our top players, but aside from Helle, they are not in the top tier. Even though Morrissey gets mentioned in the Norris conversation every year it is by a few voices. He might finish in the top 10 in the voting, maybe even hitting top 5 once. But he is not widely considered a contender. Not my opinion. I think he is overlooked by many because he doesn't score quite as high as the top guys and - Winnipeg.

Scheif and Connor aren't in the same bin as McD, Drai, MacK and quite a few others.

Compared to Edmonton, Colorado, even TML, we are built on depth, not our stars.

I have always liked Apples. But I would consider swapping him and AI when Vilardi gets back. Maybe Lowry likes him on the wing, as Scheif likes KC. That is a possible factor. But I think AI gives = D and more scoring.

I hope all the numbers work out. If push comes to shove and we can't spend the money on the 4th line i get it, but, he does make the team better.
Can see interesting arguments for AI over Nino. I mean nino when he doesn't put up points isn't as versatile on pk, defensively, etc.

Ya, but look at all the tickets Nino sells in Switzerland.

Being low on Connor and high on Appleton is a first here haha

Noice.

Have to chuck in another classic from close relative / alter-ego Iain B...

Great game, exactly the quiet confident workmanlike victory a contender needs as they tamp down the season.

Now for another on Sunday, followed by, say, 5 more in April. Plus a barnstormer or blowout to cap this epic season!
Currently reading "The Crow Road" which is straight literature/fiction... Banks would alternate between writing science fiction works and non-science fiction each year.

Who's low on Connor? Saying he is not on the same level as Draisaitl is not being low on him.

I'm high on Connor in the top 6 and I like Apples in the bottom 6. Bit of a difference.
