Post-Game Talk: Bagel City, Jets 4 - Devils 0

i liked Dillon a lot & from what i understand really wanted to be back and enjoyed being a Jet & in Winnipeg. I would have wanted him back in a 3rd pair role, which likely means lesser salary than the 4M he got. If he accepted a 2x3M deal, so similar to what they Jets traded Schenn for, i would not have minded that. but he essentially doubled that total-value in UFA which is fully in his right and it's not like he went to a bottom feeder either.

essentially, it would've kept Stanley out the lineup and evidently would be alot more comfortable with him having to be a top-4 fill-in if an injury came up, as did with Samberg earlier this year. i think he'd be a better vet to pair a youngin' RD play next to as well such as Salomonssen.

After watching the highlights again, I really hope the Jets adopt the Heritage jerseys as their full time jerseys for next season.

YES!!

5 out of 5 Iain M. Banks for this game.

A particularly beautiful game by Helly and the fourth line.

Noice.

Have to chuck in another classic from close relative / alter-ego Iain B...

Great game, exactly the quiet confident workmanlike victory a contender needs as they tamp down the season.

Now for another on Sunday, followed by, say, 5 more in April. Plus a barnstormer or blowout to cap this epic season!

Dilly said many a time that he was having a blast here but when push came to shove he moved on for whatever reasons most probably money and going to another contender. That being said I seen him play a few times this year and he seems to still be the player he was for us but the contract is to heavy for me.

The way this team is handling adversity with the Pionk/Villardi injuries is a sight to behold. In the previous seasons they have kinda whimpered into the playoffs, even when they have had win streaks going into the playoffs, the process hasn't looked great. This is more like how they entered the playoffs going into the 2018 post-season than the last few years.

Just gotta hope Pionk & Villardi are healthy by the time round 1 starts.

There was no contract offer from the Jets is my understanding. I think he wanted to stay.

im glad Dillion is gone. I think they’d have a harder time moving berg up, who is the better d, if he stayed.

I disagree. It was clear that it was time for that switch last year. It isn't like Dillon is not aware that he is getting older. These guys all know that they will be pushed down by a younger player some day.

Would he have signed here knowing that was the plan? Another question, but my guess is that he would have if the contract offer had come before he got his nose out of joint over not having received an offer. But we'll never know for sure.

Love what Iaffalo brings to this team but I think we have seen this before with him and the top line. He starts hot and plays well but it doesn't last for some reason or another. If and when Vilardi is ready he goes back to the top line and A I goes back to the 4th.

Maybe he goes back to the 3rd?

My guess is he would still have wanted too much money for the role of 3rd pairing as I have to assume Chevy knows what he is doing. He has done a great job so far. It is easier for the players to then paint the team in a negative light and come across as the good guy. "I wanted to stay here, they just wouldn't let me."

Playoffs are such a different animal though.

When the Oilers went to game 7 of the final on 06 guys like Fernando Pisani, Mike Grier and Ethan Moreau scored huge goals for them. The benefit of keeping AI on the top line is he can give grit and defensive play but can also chip in, which also allows us to cause matchups issues for teams trying to defend Vilardi.

I think he's underutilized on the top line. If he's with Ehlers he can cash in with his in tight hands on the rebounds ehlers creates and can also help with board work.

Who are you putting with Ehlers there? Vilardi? Or Iafallo?

from what i understand, dillon wanted to stay and was awaiting to be extending similar to Nino in late 2023. not sure if you remember, but there was a report that a few Jets FAs (which was guys like dillon and demelo) were surprised at Nino getting done early, & were hoping to be the same. maybe the Logan Stanley 3rd pair fixation overshadowed the idea Dillon as a 3rd pair LD, dunno.
Nevertheless, if Dillon was re-signing here it was not going to be for the deal he got in NJD. Hard to say if he would have accepted less or not. I liked him and his time here but no chance at 2LD with Samberg's ascension. the fact they brought in Schenn who is older, ~3m for another year and plays a similar physical style (but less offense) leads me to believe maybe there could've been a 3rd pair fit for Dillon at that ~3m price-point.

3rd pairing on the left side was going be Stanley's and I'm sure they wanted Samberg to move up to the 2nd pairing. While Dillion may have wanted to stay the Jets were not going to heavily invest in a guy that they would use a stop gap. Generally I think it would out the best for the Jets this year.

So another victim of the Stanley experiment :0. I wonder if they thought they could use the 3 mil savings on another area.

They came from Switzerland to watch him play. So Nino being a nice guy took them on a tour of the Jet dressing room and made them feel welcomed.

Wow! A long way to go to watch hockey. There were a lot of them too. Besides 5 or 6 in Swiss jerseys there were at least another 5 or 6 in Jets jerseys, all with 62 Niederreiter on them. All sitting more or less together in, I think, section 121. :thumbu:

He complained in about late Feb/early Mar last year about not having received an offer. He knew he was playing well enough to deserve one. My guess, and it is just a guess, is that he would have signed at that time for less then what he got from NJD as a UFA.

Chevy knew by then that Snerg would be 2LD this season. Right or wrong, he elected to save cap and go with Stan at 3LD instead.

Hopefully they were pinching pennies as they thought the money Dillion would have got will be better spent on keeping Ehlers.

A few are life long friends of Neo .

Villardi as Ehlers needs someone to finish and Iafallo is good enough for the 1st line till he cools off which is hopefully long after Villardi returns.

But we could say something very similar about putting AI there too. Though he doesn't have Vilardi's hands.

Another option would be to simply switch Volare and Perfetti. Perfetti would not play like Vilardi but he would still complement Scheif and Connor, playing 2 ways and creating scoring plays.

Meanwhile, maybe AI and Apples could be swapped.
