Post-Game Talk: Bagel City Jets 3 - Avs 0

I was at this one live. First game in probably 7 years. Bought a couple of resale tix so that TNSE didn't get my money lol

Yes, the Jets played well but the Avs didn't look like they had their A game. I can count on one hand how many times I puckered when Mack or Makar had the puck

Part of their inability to create much can be attributed to the Jets strong structure in the D zone. Everything is pushed to the outside... which results in low percentage shot attempts... for that reason, I'm less likely to stress about shot metrics with this team. Seeing this is so much easier live when you can see the totality of the ice rather than on TV

But if we're going to say that our strong play affects how other teams can establish their game, then we need to admit that it can happen TO us, too... I think the LA is a good example of that

So many people assume that wins and losses are attributed to effort or "poor play" (and some are), but there's so much more to it

Salary Cap and how high it goes will determine if the Jets can afford Pionk at 6m or more. We got Samberg and Vilardi as to top RFA's to sign, Barron and Kupari and middle RFA's to sign. Also a host of UFA's led by Nik who I personally don't think will be re signing unfortunately. A I might also flee. I think this team can move on from Vladdy and Apples but one or both could be back. The kicker is the following year and what KFC will want also the Captain will need a new contract which I don't think will be to hard to attain. Back to Pionk do the Jets give him a big ticket long term deal and hope he plays the way he has this year, maybe but if they do and he reverts to past years that contract will haunt them.
How many years has Chevy been here?
We all know how Chevy/TN operates .. if the players want to be here Chevy will sign them.
If they are not playing up to their contracts and hurting the team they are traded or released.
Imo no defencemen will be paid more than Morrissey until 2026-27.
Connor will be the first player to get more than Scheifele & Hellebuyck.
Iaffallo is probably gone he can be top 6 on a lot of teams but not on the Jets.
Ehlers is a hard one to read for me I don't get much info here on the west coast ... does he want to be a Jet?
Bottom 3rd D pairing is not a problem with the Jets as you can see Chevy has no problem finding them ... he just needs to find the tough D (Buff clone).

I'd like to see a longer stretch with Lowry at 2C with Ehlers on the wing. Iafallo can play with them, or maybe Nino. But I think Lowry can play with offensive players the way Jordan Staal and Sam Bennett do.

Here are the individual and on-ice stats for those three over the past three seasons. Staal and Bennett play more often with top offensive wingers like Jarvis and Tkachuk.

On-ice, then individual stats below...

IMO, the best part about Ehlers on the Lowry line is that it forces him to keep his game simple and play north-south

There were many times last night where I noticed Ehlers making the smart, simple play.. like coming up the wall in the O zone and instead of doing laps or throwing a cross ice pass to the far dman, he just cycled the puck down low

Good post ... I don't get too high or low on a win or loss against top teams.
All it takes is a good shot or bad break or bad call and the outcome is different.
Maybe if Vilardi doesn't break his stick Jets win the game in Colorado or maybe if the Avs score on their PPs last night the Avs win ... when 2 good teams play someone has to lose.
The only thing I would do different playing the Avs is have the Jet wingers play closer to the point men in the DZ. Avs were doing that to the Jets just waiting for a bad pass for a quick breakout.

And that is why they can't go too long with Pionk. He'll be 30 when that contract kicks in. I wouldn't go a day over 4 years, regardless of AAV. That may lead him to walk if he thinks he can do better elsewhere.

I would like to keep AI. His 4 mil seems like an overpay but when you see how well he can perform in whatever role they give him and how his defensive play shines, I think he earns it. His modest counting stats should keep his price reasonable. I would offer up to 3x3.

Pardon my ignorance, but when the hell is HF gonna be fixed? Kudos to all of you who continue to post here, I find it extremely frustrating to read, let alone post. (but here I am posting!)

Didn’t get to watch last night as we were at a friend’s place for a dinner gathering…and they typically don’t give a rat’s ass about sports. Food was delish and fun had by all but sounds like I missed a good one.

Thanks for all your updates!

I've just been waiting out the glitches. They are being fixed one by one. I don't see much wrong with it now.

Interesting comp. I think Lowry's biggest shortcoming is finishing. But playing with skilled linemates he should get quite a lot of assists. He can make things happen. And he isn't a complete void when it comes to finishing either.

Yes, this.
When any team can beat any other team on a given day, it has to be possible for any good team to simply execute a good game plan against another good, or even better, team. Planning and execution can work for either team without it somehow shaming the team that loses.

More Lowry can't be a bad thing, he's been our best player in the playoffs the last couple years, he is the heart of the team, I think you put him in that 2C role until the trade deadline and let him prove he can do it.... He's earned the opportunity. Namestnikov isn't bringing any more offence than Lowry can. Arniel did say in his post-game that the Lowry-Ehlers combo is intriguing and has him thinking, he liked what he saw.

Ehlers has also proven that he is solid defensively so that line is an option to shut down top players like Mackinnon. I think there is absolutely no reason to move away from that line combo when Namestnikov is healthy.

They still haven't fixed how tables are posted, nor have they fixed the live thread feature. Hopefully, as you say, they will get to them, but until then, it makes more work for me. :pullhair: You would think they would have waited until the summer to roll this out...:dunno:

Love Vladdy he does a lot of good things for this team but he really isn't a second line centre. Is Lowry the answer? the jury is out but it looked like Nik like him and line he played with last night
Agree, would like to see him somewhere (on the team) other than with Nik.

Would like to see the "dark" feature enabled.. my phone has this on the hf platform but not my macbook.

Hopefully this is a wake up call to the portion of the media and fan base that says you can't break up the "best 3rd line in hockey". Balanced 4 lines makes us way more dangerous then a shut down line. Don't think anyone had a bad game in that one, 4th line didn't get much time but Toni showed way more speed then I remember.
Good point. It often takes a long losing streak or injuries to do that but my guess is that they will go back to usual lines once everyone returns. Although Arniel said this game got him thinking . It does make sense to have speed with strength but the speed guys still need to play some defence in this system.

Toni has had speed but Ray Neufeld mitts!

Yes, caught that. And, agreed. Egregious mud coveting swine
On Friday night after the Kings' goal early in the first was challenged and ruled offside the arena scoreboard went from Jets 0 - 1 Kings to 0 - 2...and then to 0 - 3! Before they changed it back to 0 - 0.

Have you tried BB code for the tables? I was having trouble and kind of screwed around switching between BB code and normal and it worked. That was a smaller table though.

And I have a bunch of threads I'd like to ignore.

I lost that thread to post complaints.

@Gm0ney, thanks for your reply. This is also what the mods suggested, but when they tried it, it did not work for them either. I am using Microsoft Excel and that is a known issue in the new upgrade, which they have not found a workaround for. Until they fix it, I will simply have to post it as a .jpg image, which doesn't exactly look nice... :dunno:

I realize this is off topic, but wanted everyone aware.

I received a phishing attempt that might be related to the recent drama. It was a very unconvincing one, but thought I'd let you all know so you can remain vigilant.
Post it, please. Inquiring minds want to know.
