Proposal: Backup goalie - SJS / NYI

Simple deal caused by Halak's health and play in the WCoH.

To SJS: JF Berube
To NYI: 2017 3rd

Why?

For SJS - Because if Berube is waived, he may not make it to SJS, and he's a good, cheap option for backup goalie.

For NYI - Get rid of 3 headed goalie monster.

This is theoretical. NYI will carry 3 goalies if they're concerned about Halak's groin. Big downgrade from Berube to Chris Gibson.

Doubt the Sharks are interested yet in acquiring a goalie. They're going to see what they have in Dell before they make a move.

Is there a timeline in which the Isles would want to pull the trigger on this? From a Sharks point of view, I'd like to see Dell get a start or two to see how he does as the backup before looking to acquire someone else. I don't think Doug Wilson will trade for a goalie before the season, but this deal would make sense in November if Dell flounders.

Don't know if I'd do a 3rd though.

We could do this in a few weeks is Dell doesn't look good.

Tough to say.

With Prince going on IR, we can keep an extra player on the roster until he's healthy. But, it is possible that Anthony Beauvillier gets a few games, so someone would have to be sent down for that to happen. It'd be much easier to do something like this now rather than later from an Islanders perspective.

Does Dell need waivers? If he doesn't, you guys should pull the trigger on this deal now.

If they do (I don't have inside info on how they're thinking about Halak), it would be soon. Otherwise, they might end up in a situation where they have to waive him, and he's the kind of guy who will get picked up.

Don't see any way a 3rd round pick is given up for JFB unless Wilson really, really covets him. Anything south of a 6th perhaps...

Dell would need waivers but that's not exactly why they'd hesitate to pull the trigger. They want to see what they have in him and adding another goalie only makes sense if he doesn't pan out. They're not going to pull the trigger before finding that out.

I suppose. But I could see a team snapping him up. (IMO Berube is better than Anders Nilsson on Buffalo, for example).

1. Berube has proven very little at the NHL level

2. Part of me would be scared that he spent the majority of last season in the Press Box

I am not saying he is better or worse then Nilsson, but I don't think saying either would be an easily provable statement

Can we wait for you guys to put Berube on waivers?
I don't think that's a going to happen. But who knows? I think the Isles really like Berube and they will again keep 3 goalies like last year, or they will try to trade Greiss before waiving Berube. Just my feeling but I can be wrong.

I think the Islanders believe Berube has at least 1A potential, and will go to great lengths to avoid waiving him.

I think it's a farce what the Isles are doing with Berube. I can understand the shenanigans last year because of the waiver rules, but they have no excuse this year. They're holding him hostage again and ****ing with his potential career. Waive him, too bad if he's claimed and hope he clears.
