Eh I've seen Dallas and Carolina fans not even willing to offer a 2nd and a B prospect.
Yeah but those are people that don't understand that Backlund would add a huge boost to their team 5 on 5 and on the PK. Fans want prospects and 21-24 year old players. GMs want wins and cups.

That's why people on this site are horrible at determining value of players, especially pending UFAs

Timmins is a huge question mark in himself. Kid has skill but can't stay healthy. Tanev has one year left and given his age/injury history, I don't see him resigning. Weegar is a right shot but prefers the left side. I don't really see that changing, so there is definitely a need. Very high risk with Timmins but looking at the rest of what the Leafs have, that would realistically be available for Backlund and he could be the best option.
Weegar doesn't prefer the left side, he's quite indifferent and can play both sides at an elite level. Unless Hanifin is traded there is a very good chance Weegar is moved back the right side this year to play with Kylington

I'd love to do something like: Backlund for Faksa, Dellendrea, and 2024 1st rounder.

I'd do that. Faksa is basically a lesser Backlund defensively. I've liked him for a long time. We'd miss the extra points for sure, but he can play a sound bottom 6 role.

Only way Conroy moves Backlund is if Backlund asks to be moved. If thats the case Id expect the Avs to offer up a lot, Backlund would be perfect behind Mac.

Keeping Backlund is key to bouncing back. Unless he wants out, no way do I consider moving him for a low first. He's got a few years left of being a Selke level guy imo

To me, Calgary has to be one of the more intriguing teams to watch this offseason.

They were nowhere near good enough this year, are already capped out, and are not particularly young. They've obviously got a ton of pretty important pending UFAs.

In order to even discuss the concept of Backlund to the Leafs, or really, anywhere, I think you need a more concrete idea of where the Flames actually see themselves a year from now.

This is a good post. The Flames are a hard team to peg. Win the conference, then miss the playoffs. Then win the division, then miss the playoffs.

I'm in the rebuild camp. We had some misfortune with the last rebuild:

1. Fox refusing to sign. Rangers only made a return impossible.
2. Monahan becoming old as 25 due to injuries.
3. Tkachuk wants out.
4. Bennett not being used properly and wanting out.

This team drafted fairly well in their rebuild finding Gaudreau in the 4th round, Mangiapane in the 6th, Fox in the 3rd, Andersson, Kylington and Dube in the 2nd. The issue is we mismanaged our youth and cap. Ownership wanted a now approach and we moved all our picks.

We are now at a crossroad. 7 desirable UFAs in 2024. Hanifin is the only one young enough to be a good keeper for the other side of a retool. The issue is Huberdeau and Kadri. Both are unmovable and are 17.5M in cap space.

Yeah, I'd also go one step further in suggesting that amongst their impending UFAs, while all are desirable, I'm not sure any of them, other than maybe Lindholm, are "impact enough" to get a player that will have an impact in the next year.

If you decide to go full sell on the likes of Toffoli, Backlund, Tanev and Zadorov, you're going to end up with a massive haul of picks & prospects, but I don't think you're looking at top 15 picks, or prospects that are really trending in the right direction.

If it's going to take 3-4 years to see the "fruits" of those deals... that's a problem on timeline for Kadri & Huberdeau.
