And in the case of the USA, they outshot Canada for the two games and had more goals. I don't really know what you would've asked them to do much better other than convert on one of the scoring chances that Binnington stopped late in the game. They weren't going to beat Canada like 4-0 in either games.

Even the 96 team got put shot and out played by Canada. Now it's a coin toss.

So?

What does that change about what I've said?

You expect fans from here not to dump on these guys after all their big talk the last while?

And I doubt many people from anywhere are very concerned that they are being made to eat crow right now, you may not have noticed, the U.S isn't exactly very popular these days anywhere.

They brought it on themselves, don't complain now that they are reaping what they sowed.

And yes, it is personal, they made it personal.
Canadian brothers. A closer look into the whole story is necessary for all, this blustering didn’t all just come out of the blue.
The 51st state thing is nothing personal against the Canadian people. The big Orange bully is just trolling PM Ken doll. Calling him Governor Trudeau is like calling him a pigeon, he can chirp with the best. It’s all aimed at Trudeau, not the citizens. I fully understand it pissing off everybody, though. The tariff threat is because of issues the US leader has issues in regards to Canada (the part most people seem unaware of) which the Canadian leader won’t address.
No one seriously wants to annex Canada, and if Trudeau stops trying to posture himself as the big bully fighting Canadian hero (idk trying to outTrump Trump) until he officially resigns next month, they could talk and work out a solution.
And they will work out a solution that makes both countries better, the US and Canada are too important to each other’s well being for any other outcome.

I have no idea what is going on in the orange mans head, no one does.

But we sure do need to fix this, that I will agree on.

But it's not a fight we picked, that I do know.

Orange man bad has always been a troll. He continues because people will constantly take the bait.

Just as Trudeau predictably did when he fired back on Twitter after this tournament concluded.

How is this personal? You have zero influence on the outcome of these games. Your life will not change one bit regardless of who won/lost.
You might as well take an insult to Taylor Swift personal too,

Add Quinn Hughes and Charlie McAvoy to last night’s lineup and is this even a thread?

I’ve done everything I can to avoid saying the above, but this whole narrative that USA should have won and ended up choking… I mean shit, does this game go to OT if Hughes, McAvoy and a healthy pair of Tkachuks are in the lineup?

And yes, that goes both ways if the Canada lineup is fully healthy. USA was missing much bigger pieces and the result was a coin flip that turned on a couple of wild saves. That doesn’t mean “back to the drawing board” it means “wow that’s a tough break”.

It was personal to us as a country, if you don't think it was you're wrong. I don't expect you to get that as you don't live here and you're not Canadian.

Will quote myself from responding to this same nonsense you posted in the Matthews thread.

Embarrassing, truly.

USA won one game spectacularly and lost the other in an OT they thoroughly dominated with 10 forwards.

Despite Matthews and others not scoring.

No Hughes or McAvoy.

A mighty swing and miss.

The US has high scoring and skilled players on paper, but it simply doesn't seem to translate to the real world.

No tournament win at the mens level since 1996 during the WCOH. This is pushing a dizzying 30 year stretch of misery and despair.

Now I don't say this to antagonize but it's rather a legitimate hockey question, why has the US been unable to get past Canada and a variety of other countries at the mens level? may it be the IIHF World's that happen every spring, the olympics or recent world cups. This was supposed to be the best collection of American talent in a generation and yet they went out with a whimper with 2 consecutive losses to Sweden and Canada.

Notable points here is Auston Matthews and Jack Eichel, long compared as the US answer to Canada's McDavid and MacKinnon 1-2 punch. Yet they combined for 0 goals, while Canada's pair combined for 7. Similarly we always hear talks of the US supposedly vastly superior goaltending - yet once again it never seems to be a deciding factor. From Miller in 2010, to Quick in 2014 to Hellebuyck in 2025.

Is it a mental block? is it the stress of the bright lights?

The answer is sample size.

Love that Canada won, but US could have easily won, they were the better team for the last twenty minutes of play or whatever it was.

Sample size + puck luck is the problem, not USA hockey, they’ve done a great job.

I haven’t read this thread but I’d imagine it pairs well with all the comments after the round robin game, about we’d clearly overtaken Canada as tge world’d premier hockey nation.

Overreactions are fun.

This stuff has been personal to Canadians long before Trump ever took presidency the first time. I understand why it's inflamed now. But at the end of the day, this means nothing. Canada is supposed to win.

I still recall the freakouts and Bret Hull being viewed as a "traitor" after the '96 world cup.

How can it be personal if you're not affected? It's a hockey game. It has no direct influence on you, nor you it.

And if it's so personal to the country, why were only 10 million people watching when McDavid scored? Canada is a country of 40 million
Apparently 3/4 the country doesn't care.

But at the end of the day, this means nothing. Canada is supposed to win.

The tournament was incredibly exciting, millions of people were into it, the players played their hearts out.

I don't even know why downplaying it like this is necessary. The US should be proud of their team, they had a great showing and are clearly contenders for the Olympic Gold next year.

I'm being realistic.

The tournament isn't a bad thing and I'm cool with it replacing the all-star game. Provided it's also played outside the US and Canada for a change.

I don't know how saying how Canada winning the tournament meant "nothing" is "realistic".

It's pretty clear how much it meant to the players and the fans.

The US has been threatening to take down Canada in these best on best competitions for a while now (2010 gold medal game went to OT, 2014 semi-final game was a 1-0 win), Canada holding on and keeping the crown while the US teams keep getting better means a lot.

Chicago also found a way to beat both Florida and Edmonton this year.

If a game isn’t a finals it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.
Perhaps if this were the Olympics but it was an artificial tournament with little meaning. Guaranteed it would be a very different tone from Canadian fans had USA won in the OT they thoroughly dominated.

"It did not count" would be the theme.

Supposedly going to be a World Cup along with the Olympics being regular NHL participation. They may go back to a regular old all star game in the odd numbered years.
