I'm sorry, I just don't think McDavid giving his okay means a damn thing when he's never said no, including giving a thumbs up to acquiring Brandon Manning, aka the guy that cost McDavid the Calder trophy.

McDavid wants to win. Hiring a mediocre coach with a ton of baggage isn't going to push this team in the direction it wants to go. After all, we went through this exact scenario with Stan Bowman and he sure as hell isn't guiding this team anywhere good.
He didn’t just give his ok… he wants him. Figure it out.

Not comparable scenarios at all.

Babcock will likely be better than what Knoblauch was last year. Knob was a disaster last year and had lost the room, a much longer summer to recuperate and no Finals hangover will likely also help the team.

This team generally gets a new coach bump from almost every coach anyway. Even Hitchcock got a new coach bump with a roster far worse than what's here now, but definitely we got one initially under Tippett, again with Woodcroft, and a massive one under Knoblauch/Coffey too. Babcock is not that terrible of a coach, maybe he's not the sexiest hire that some people wanted, but he can coach.

He will be more stern with the group than Knoblauch was and they will need that. Now again, this isn't my 1st choice either (Sutter would be), but a lot of the silly crap Knoblauch let slide is likely going to be checked fast (ie: Bouchard having to kill someone to get benched).

Yeah for sure. The ‘winning’ part might be a problem. lol. But hey, you never know. Bowman could fluke his way into a couple of good adds … and I’ll never count out McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard. Plus … if I recall, and sorry if I’m wrong about this, you were one of the guys who went hard against acquiring Evander Kane. For reasons of ‘character’ and ‘being a bad person’, similar to the questions people are having with Bowman. Many posters here threatened to turn in their fan card if the Oilers signed Kane. What happened there? Kane showed up and for a couple of years he was huge for this club. Recall his playoff hat trick against the Flames … one of the best moments in recent Oiler history. Sometimes guys learn from their past mistakes and show up and make a positive impact. I’m not a fan of Babcock and to be perfectly clear he wouldn’t be my choice. But it’s not impossible to foresee a scenario where he could show up, lessons learned, and be a force for improvement.
Well Kane is probably the only free agent we are going to be able to attract so who’s ready for round two??

Looking at the awful UFA crop this summer, it's probably for the best that the Oilers sit this one out. Odds are they would sign another very stupid contract everyone is crying about in 6-10 months.

One thing with Babcock is he’s known to spend his summers preparing for camp and the season. Columbus was really impressed with how detailed and prepared he was for camp, until everything went sideways.

I can’t remember the last Oilers camp where they looked prepared and it’s been at least 4 years since they started a season looking even remotely prepared.

Last season they had a good start I think Tippett was coach in 2021, but then they totally collapsed in December and he was fired a short while later, lol.

Half this board wants Cassidy, the guy who wobbled around .500 all year and don’t want Torts, the guy who took the same club to within 2 wins of a Cup.
Half of you don’t know wtf your talking about.

Torts had a lot of luck on his side and in the end it fizzled out.

Hart showed who he really is as a goalie.

Torts is out of a job. Cassidy recently was coach of the year.
