I assume this is some formality someone will explain but, as noted above, other players have signed such deals and stayed overseas. ASP confirms that is the plan. Two years away.

24-25 is Edvinsson and Johansson
25-26 is Wallinder and ________
26-27 is ASP and ___________

The D pipeline is fully stocked. A few prospects could play their way into the blanks. It is also true Johansson and Wallnder could play their way out of the spots. Yet, the current contracts line up well with exits and entrances.

Blank filler:

Cleveland
Gibson
Buium

Very good decision to stay. Hard to be sure about the intangibles of such a young prospect, but I like everything I've seen about compete level, maturity, ability to adapt and what he says.

Surely Rafalski had hair when he was 19yo. I don't know when he went bald or shaved it off, but let's hope ASP makes it while he still has some.

Rafalski lost his hair before he signed with the Wings whereas ASP has hair when he signed. I was not doing 19YO comparisons, Rafalski was not a Wings prospect.

Pretty sure Rafalski was born without hair, so I don't know about that.
Since I've decided to quit my job, I did research for you instead of doing useful work:

Rafalski at UW (looks like it's already starting to thin):

Rafalski in 1999 (26 YO, playing for Liiga):

Awesome job getting to the root of the issue. Definitely thinning and on borrowed time.
