Dude, Cronin did just fine in Loveland. O’Connor and Graves are probably the Avs’ biggest successes but there’s more than just that. Avs just suck at drafting, the Eagles can’t make chicken soup outta chicken shit.

Just because he’s been a disaster in Anaheim doesn’t mean he always sucked, it just means he might not be a good head coach at the NHL level.
I think it's also a little premature to judge his NHL head coaching abilities after less than half a season at the NHL level. As if we weren't all baying for Bednar's public execution after 16/17.

It doesn’t have to be the Eagles. The idea is there would be better proximity and relevance than Loveland/Almostwyoming.
Why would that even matter, though? For the record, Loveland is closer to Denver than Colorado Springs, and southern Colorado isn't exactly known for its scintillating culture anyway. Fort Collins has some good bars and restaurants, plus live music and comedy every day of the week. The Springs may not be as bad as it used to be, but it's been famously straight-laced and boring for decades. And you're a lot more likely to find a good party to crash in the vicinity of CSU than by the Air Force Academy. If I was a young hockey player with an NHL contract, I would be way happier with my life north of Denver than south of it.

Have you ever even been to either city? I used to go up to Fort Collins regularly back in the day when I did stand-up, because I knew a promoter up there who could get me (unpaid) stage time, and the rooms weren't half bad either. It's not exactly New York City for night life but it's not a cow town, either. And I rarely get down all the way to the Springs because it's a very long and boring drive, but I also don't usually have a pressing reason to make the trip either. Once you've seen Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak a few times there isn't a lot else to do.

CS is the second largest city in the state. Due to the AFA and Ft Carson, they have a lot of people that are there temporarily. Having a large transient population can grow the fan base more. Colorado College is also there. Having that proximity to college programs could help cultivate relationships that could lead to a broader reach when it comes to coaches or possibly greater familiarity with players. This kind of access to word of mouth information sharing could be valuable.

Fort Collins CO
Castle Rock and Colorado Springs suck compared to Northern Colorado. The arena the Eagles play in is right off i-25 and is technically in Loveland but it is 15 minutes away from the towns of Loveland, Windsor, Timnath, Fort Collins, Berthoud, and Johnstown. Each of those cities has a ton of new neighborhoods, golf courses and anything else a hockey player could need.

The fanciest restaurant in Northern Colorado is located in the small, but growing town of Windsor. Chimney Park if you want to have a fine dining experience.

The Avs wants their AHL team to play the same way and that is what Cronin was bringing. So if he brought the same system to the Ducks we are very likely witnessing the 2016-17 Bednar situation which is that he just doesn't have the right roster to be successful. Depending how aggressive the GM is it could take a few years to have the right roster and start seeing the benefits and being successful.

I don't think that's the case with Cronin. The Avs in 16-17 were an utterly horrible team. I'm pretty sure all of Grigorenko, Bourque, Iginla, Tyutin, Wiercioch, Colborne, Mitchell, Goloubef, McLeod, Gelinas, and Jeremy Smith never got NHL gigs after that season. That's an absurd amount of regulars to not be NHL caliber.

The Ducks have a ton of players who are young, fast and skilled. It doesn't make sense as to why Cronin isn't able to get more out of players like Carlsson, McTavish, Gauthier, Mintyukov, Zellweger etc. That team BLEEDS scoring chances against. It's growing pains for sure as young kids but I also don't believe they should be THIS bad, especially when their goaltending is this good.

This is his second season coaching in the NHL.

It’s definitely not all his fault and I’m fairly certain he’s being told to do things a certain way by management, but I don’t like how he’s got a very talented, skill-based roster (albeit extremely raw) and he’s having them play an almost purely grinding style. I don’t think that’s a good team but they should NOT be the 32nd-ranked offense in the league, that’s just ridiculous.

But for Bednar's system to work everybody needs to buy in. If Cronin is trying the same thing and a few don't fit in it can collapse very quickly. I don't watch the Ducks so I might be wrong but as I said in my previous post Cronin was using the same system on the Eagles so it would make sense he uses the same in Anaheim.

Eagles are gonna be moving to Greeley here soon, as their new arena will be built there.

I'm sure the smell will be why they don’t develop in the future.

The smell will turn into a question about how many times Travis Forbes was there.

It’s weird how Bednar’s system unleashed racehorses in his second season while Cronin is turning racehorses into mules.

He's a half hour away from Boulder is the best thing for them.

Cronin only used Bednar’s system at first, when it didn’t work they gave up and just let Cro do whatever. I’m 1000000% positive whatever he’s using in Anaheim is NOT Bednar’s system. It’s a grinding scheme that has almost no offensive dynamic to it, and defensively he just looks like he’s having them pile bodies up the middle in a desperate attempt to limit shots against (which doesn’t work because the goalies are continually bombarded). I don’t think they have anything resembling a breakout scheme.

Again, I think Cro is doing that because Verbeek hired him exactly to do it that way, but Verbeek is too dumb to realize he has a roster that doesn’t fit that of game at all. You should not be trying to get Carlsson, Zegras, McTavish, Terry, Mintyukov, etc. to play slog-it-up hockey.

Ok good to know. Like I said...I don't really watch them so I was only assuming he was still using the same Avs system. Thanks for the info.
