yeah it’s unfortunate how many first round picks we’ve lit on fire over the years, particularly in the 15-32 range.

Hopefully the flashes were seeing from UDFA and late picks such as Prisch and Jed continue

At least Newhook and Barron were utilized to get excellent value in trades.
I remember Barron in Juniors. I was impressed but he never took the next step either and now he is on his third NHL team. It's so difficult to project players. They can dominate in Juniors but some never adapt to the NHL. That being said I'm not sure what Colorado ever saw in Seimans.

People have been passionately fighting for him in the summer prospect polls for years, and I have been baffled as to why. Literally every year since he went to the OHL in his D+1 season, he has underperformed expectations and fallen short of key development milestones. And every year he's fallen further behind. Olausson over Ivan this summer looks particularly foolish. I wrote him off years ago.

Nobody wants to plant another gravestone in the Avalanche First Round Cemetary.

Kaut and Olausson aren’t player development, they are just terrible scouting and bad picks. Kinda like how they thought they were getting a hard working leader when they picked Bleackley, when it turned out he was the opposite.

They really should’ve gone all in with MacK and Makar on their cheap contracts instead of trying to outsmart people by building for the now and the future

Has Ritchie been to Loveland...YET?

Is it something about Loveland? Is Loveland so desolate that prospects look at the world around them and soon think, “there’s nothing for me to play for”?

Would it be better in Ft Collins or Greeley? What about Grand Conjunction Junction What’s Your Function? Limon would be even worse. The Avs need to consider other options though. Maybe Colorado Springs or Crested Butte?

Loveland has done perfectly fine in developing players. The Avs don’t need to move their affiliate.

It was just a lousy pick.

Loveland is a pretty sleepy town, but even so, Fort Collins is just a quick hop away, and that's got a bunch of things to do, plus a whole bunch of college coeds hanging around CSU.

So you’re on board with Ft Collins? It’s hard to not watch Cronin’s handiwork in Anaheim with the offense from their forward prospects dying and not think, no wonder the flowers never bloomed in Loveland. Cronin’s tenure in Loveland was gaslighting invoking.

Mikko played in either Cleveland or San Antonio...but it wasn’t Loveland. Cale played in college and never played in Loveland.

I mean, Fort Collins is only 20 minutes from Loveland. Do you really think moving them less than the length of a Simpsons episode away from Loveland is going to affect player development in a meaningful way?

It seemed like you were making a case for Ft Collins. I’d prefer Colorado Springs if it’s to be in Colorado.

Why though? The Eagles have been in NoCo for ages and done very well for themselves, including back to back ECHL championships before the Avs bought them. Their AHL years haven't been as rosy, but frankly the Avs haven't given them a lot to work with talent wise. The franchise is very well established up there, and if you spend any time in Loveland or FoCo you'll start to notice a lot of their merch walking around. Moving them to Colorado Springs would be like taking the Carolina Hurricanes and moving them to Charleston. Why bother when they're already in a great spot where things are working for them?

I don't even understand how the geographic location of the Eagles within Colorado would matter for player development anyway.

It doesn’t have to be the Eagles. The idea is there would be better proximity and relevance than Loveland/Almostwyoming.

Dude, Cronin did just fine in Loveland. O’Connor and Graves are probably the Avs’ biggest successes but there’s more than just that. Avs just suck at drafting, the Eagles can’t make chicken soup outta chicken shit.

Just because he’s been a disaster in Anaheim doesn’t mean he always sucked, it just means he might not be a good head coach at the NHL level.
