IDK that he will be a productive player for the entirety of this contract, but especially with the cap going up 2.5 is not the worst cap number number even if you just have to straight up eat it for a couple of years. Not like we will be contending in 5 years anyways.

I love that LOC is a player that you never hear anyone calling out ever.

Yes, his offense isn't the best but that is known and expected. The dude is a Matt Calvert Jr. They signed with the Avs in the same year and I'd like to think that Calvy played a part in LOC's career but that would be just pure speculation.

Seems like an unnecessary amount of term, but he’s worth the dollar amount.

Identity player in the bottom-6 and he was missed after the injury last season. The 3rd line wasn’t the same after he went down.

Happy to have him locked up. He earned this contract.

I wanted to make some utility knife comparison to JTC, but there is none. I mean JTC was able to play center, but LOC is just a damn defensive specialist. He's not going to put up points, but he's going to eat minutes and make players wish they were playing a different line. He's tenacious in the Calvert sense of the way. Wood can get going like that at times, even Ross looked better when LOC was inserted into that third line. Logan truly was the engine that made it work so I'm extremely pleased we've got him locked up for the rest of his prime at a good rate today and what will be an absolute steal at the end.

To be fair to Canada, you'd have a ton of players flock to the country if cities like Quebec City or Kelowna had NHL teams. Both are some of the best-looking cities I have seen in all of North America.
Toronto and the Leafs would never stand for that. Can’t have Kelowna challenge their claim for the centre of the universe. The battle between the two over it would be fun to watch.

Didn't see that coming. I'm happy with the long term deals. Rebuild is gonna suck, but it's better to keep the team strong until that point.

Man I had to do a double take when I saw the AAV. This is a hell of a team friendly deal. I really feel like if he put in a solid year, he would have gotten 3.5-4.0M.
There's always the risk that you have a bad year and end up with basically nothing because nobody wants to commit. Financially speaking I think this was great for LOC to secure his future.

Great deal for both sides, the player and the team. Logan is a key piece in the bottom six forward group.

Also must mean that it has been obvious at camp that he is 100% back in shape after the surgery.

Can't complain with this deal.

I imagine the plan is to eventually trade Colton and put Ritchie in his spot in the next year or two then you have a very inexpensive third line to balance out a lot of top dollars players on the roster.

The term is how the dollar amount is what it is. I'd bet his camp was asking for 4 x 3.5 or 3.25. The term got the AAV down this far. Years 4-6 won't matter much anyway.

That's a surprise! Nice deal however. Shows again that the Avs don't care about later years, they're doing everything they can to maximize the next 2-4 years.

Colton's a goner next year, it's all but guaranteed. But I don't think that will be enough if everything else works perfectly (i.e. Landeskog is healthy, Nichushkin is back and clean, Rantanen and Drouin are re-signed, Fourgiev is replaced with a similar salary). Someone else would have to leave, like Manson for example. But what are the odds of that happening... I guess they LOC'ed in a certainty with a wait-and-see mentality about the rest... Make sense.

Nice piece of work!
Projected forwards next year :

Rant-Mack-Drouin
Lando-Mitts-Nich
Lehky-Ritchie-LOC
Wood-4C-Kovalenko

Someone's gonna still find a way to bitch about "lack of depth"???

Take Landy, Nuke and Lehkonen off that chart, that's your opening night lineup. Then accept that only one is guaranteed to come back and stick in the lineup.

Yes. At this moment they have a depth problem.
