Best thing for Kovalenko here is that he’s going to a team that legitimately targeted and wanted him, rather than being a throw in to a trade.

I’m sure he will get opportunity in SJ that likely wasnt possible here.

Damn.. I was a Kovy fan. I could see him becoming a very good 3rd liner.

Best of luck in San Jose. He brings a little something different to them.

Maybe our paths cross sometime again

Played 9:23 on a line with (I think) Dellandrea and Avs legend Nico Sturm.

Gamescore graphs just seem clunky to me...I think this is saying he had a net positive game and appears to have had a larger and more positive contribution to the game than his linemates, assuming it was those two.

I’ve been told it’s spelled “Pokecheck”

It’s such an insanely small sample size it really doesn’t matter, especially considering those few minutes were likely sheltered ones. But hey, first game with a new team and new system, not bad.

It's too bad that the Avs waited so long for him to come over, and finally had another home grown bottom 6'er outside of LOC, but had to move him to address the goaltending.

Even if he doesn't become a great 3rd liner, he still looks like a legit NHLer, and the Avs have trouble finding those in the draft outside the 1st round.

Goaltending is the more important position though so it had to be done.

Yep. Can't say that I enjoyed the fact he was the piece, but you do HAVE to give to get. No GMs are doing favors (on purpose). I think I'm happier with the potential of having a goalie tandem that will give the team a chance the whole way through this run more than I am enamoured in having a Kovalenko play for the Avs for a decade or so. His dad was part of the Patrick Roy trade. It makes sense that he would be part of a goalie trade for us as well.

There's something to be said for symmetry. Last time we traded a Kovalenko for a goalie it resulted in a Stanley Cup. I for one am hoping for a little history repeating iteself here.

Forgot about that. Nice anecdote.

The Avs could have kept Kovy and gotten Blackwood in the offseason for next to nothing. CMac slept and it cost the Avs Kovy and a second to address a problem they knew was a problem after Game 6
