It's a PTO...The same things were said about Nichushkin. How about we just wait to see what he looks like in camp/preseason?

I admit I was very skeptical and dismissive of Nichushkin initially but there’s no need to wait and see on JJ.

This is so strange, it's like MacDermid and JMFJ were brought in for emotional support for the all-star D. MacDonald is better than JMFJ. Would've much preferred Galchenyuk.

Classic Avs move , they've been link to JMFJ for years and he's finally here .
This guy was done and over the hill years ago , i have ZERO expectation , he shouldnt even be playing in the NHL anymore. It's a cute PTO i'm happy for the guy , but once training camp is done as a wise man said : No , never , next .

This is probably his last gasp as a hockey player. I can't imagine he gets farther along than Glencross did.

He'll be the 7D. He has the veteran presence and name recognition to entice Bednar to choose him over MacDonald and MacDermid

You mean he's the new Nemeth who Bednar will play over Byram for added "grit"

Even at his peak, he was one of the worst defensive players in the league. My hopes are non existent

I guess it's never too early to update the depth chart... :sarcasm:

Toews -- Makar
Girard -- EJ
Byram -- Murray
MacDermid
JJ

MacDonald -- Barron
Gilbert -------- Gross
Middleton ---- McKeown
Englund ------ Clurman

Behrens -- Helleson
Zhuravlyov
Leivermann

Seriously though, as others have mentioned this looks like just a preseason roster-filler move. Our D is already pretty full.

Is that how we're going to spend our remaining cap space? Possibly offering something like 1M to JJ?

Not happy at all with this. Not just because he sucks, but because Sakic leaves the door open to spend money on him meaning that he doesn't have a plan to spend that money elsewhere (ie: Bozak or a JTC trade for a better but more expensive forward).

:pout:

Relax, Sakic hasn't signed him to an actual contract. The capspace is still very much available.

Besides, even IF he did get a contract his caphit wouldn't be higher than other 7D's so the impact on our cap structure would be zero. The only issue would be that he's worse than our other 7D options.

I take JMFJ over MacDermid, McKeown, and whoever else is there at the 8th spot. At least he has played at the NHL level and knows what it takes. His story also tugs at the heart.

This is several years too late. The only way this would have been worth it is if Mike Haynes was still calling games. I might have even been ok throwing a contract offer his way if that was the case for hilarity's sake.

Well I'm not surprised...We missed out on Jones so we went for the next best thing...and he will be much cheaper. :sarcasm:

1. I don't have a problem with him eating nachos all season long but I'm not sure I'd like to actually see him on the ice. No problems with him being a designated healthy scratch allowing our other younger fringe guys to get minutes in the AHL as long as they get a callup to play before JJ has to lace them up.
2. I also like the possibility of him making a little more money after having been so completely f***ed over by his parents. He's an easy guy to root for from the regards.
