I don’t really like this. I thought giving Newhook/Rants a shot at 2C early on than looking for a 2C during the season made more sense. Keep banking the cap space.

It’s a good deal as long as it’s not the solution for a 2C. If it’s a Compher replacement because Sakic knows when a deal does get made J.T will be headed out than I love it.

I don’t know about that, but he seems like already plays hard and Bednar seems to get the most out of people like that. He seems to have greasy skills. JTC with better finish as the floor, no idea what the ceiling is but I can’t believe it’ll be a Nukish improvement.

Well that’s essentially rounded out our roster. We have a semi-open competition for 2C/2RW with Rantanen getting a definite spot and one of Rodrigues, Newhook, JTC and Meyers battling it out for the other spot. The failed candidates then move down to round out the third line. My guess is our lines will end up as:

Landy-MacK-Nuke
Lehk-JTC-Rantanen
Meyers-Rodrigues-Newhook
Cogs-Helm-LOC

If he’s brought in to be 3C or a winger that’s fine, great depth that should fit in just fine. But if he’s thought of for the 2C spot than that’s a major problem.

Newhook at 2C would have been a disaster. He's not ready, honestly not sure if he'll ever be as a center.

Even though perhaps more obvious than other moves, slides in perfectly with the "clever moves" Sakic has had to do since things starting getting tight last year. A lot of trust in the system and style of play.

I also thought they would wait until deadline and trade for a legit 2C, but more I think about it, and with this signing, I think Avs don't want to trade the 2023 1st or anyone from the roster like Girard to get that 2C. It could still happen but now they have to make room up front if they want to trade for another center. So maybe JTC will be traded along with the 2023 1st?

Ya he probably would have. And we’d have banked cap space and could make a trade later in the season.

New hook atleast has a 5% chance at being a 2C. ERod is 29. He’s a great pickup on a 1 year deal for cheap but he’s not a legitimate option as a 2C IMO. Obviously hope to be wrong.
