Rushed contract.
Ya I didn’t understand this thought process. The contract he got was his absolute base barring a significant injury or his play falling off a cliff. Reasonable bet his value was going to climb with us and he could be a 7-8 million per year goalie by season end depending how he looks in playoffs.

Was Blackwood considered for team Canada? I assume he was overlooked being on the sharks and only posting average (at best) numbers last year. But with him playing the best hockey of his career, he shouldn’t just be on the team, he should be the starter. Sucks the rosters were announced when they were.
Whoever is the one that picked the roster, needs to convince 1 of the other 3 goalies to back out, citing something like needing rest for an injury, so that Team Canada can bring him in.

Or we need to bring back Kadri to do his thing.

Eff that, pick someone else for that honor.

Blackwood by month this season

October: .894 sv%, 3.60 GAA (7 games)
November: .916 sv%, 2.67 GAA (9 games)
December: .935 sv%, 2.10 GAA (9 games; 6 with COL, 3 with SJ)
January: .943 sv%, 1.28 GAA (3 games)

His play was trending sharply upwards even before the trade, and now playing with our squad instead of that dreadful Sharks squad has pushed him to an even higher level.

That's interesting. November still looks pretty solid for this day and age, especially on a bad team. December and January look great though. Perhaps why they decided to sign him quickly.

Speaking of which, it will be very interesting to see how he performs in the playoffs. Does he play nervous because he's never played in the NHL playoffs? Does he keep this current play up? Does he step it up even more somehow? Slightly nervous about the uncertainty but cautiously optimistic as well. If he can bring his current play to the playoffs, jeesh I'll be feeling really good about their chances barring injuries/stars being worn out again.

He seems to have the extremely laid back personality to not get flustered come playoff time. He doesn’t wear pressure the same way Georgiev visibly did.

I think having a partner like Wedgewood who seems to have a calming presence will help him. Lines of communication are open between them and he will be supporting him the entire way.

Not even depending how he looks in the playoffs. Hellebuyck’s game gets significantly worse in the playoffs but he still got 8.5 mill
