GDT: Avs @ Kings | 2pm MT | More Excited for the Eagles Game Edition

I get it it’s not a popular opinion and I’m ok with that. But I have explained it in a couple posts I’m not gonna. Retype my response
I think if you’re a team like Minnesota, yes, you absolutely want to be playing your best going into the playoffs. Mostly because you’re fighting for a spot.

But it’s different for a team like Colorado. They are a veteran team with multiple Stanley cup winners. They’re locked into a playoff spot and not just locked into playoffs, they’re locked standings wise.

They’re resting tons of players. Bringing up career minor leaguers. Trying to get, one of the unhealthiest teams, healthy.

Playing your best hockey means exerting effort. It means laying out for blocked shots. It means being physically engaged. It also means more injury and more fatigue.

How you should be playing going into the playoffs is entirely team and situation dependent. I fail to see how the THIS specific team, should be doing the latter to try to play their best hockey going into the playoffs.

Coyle said it the best. They know what they have to do come playoffs. I don’t know why some of you are concerned and think Avs gonna play like this in the playoffs. This games mean absolutely nothing. They gonna come out flying in game one of the playoffs, with top guys well rested and everything

Girard said “so Makar, Toews, Lindgren, and Manson don’t have to play but I do? Watch this…”

I think Blackwood, as starting goaltender for Avs playoffs (ie ‘top guy’), is not exactly getting the same rest and he is not looking stellar. He’s the one I’m worried about but - if he’s coasting and has a different gear for playoffs - so be it. If not / first round may be more challenging than he/they can handle. Go Avs

Aamodt had a nice game. He and Ahcan struggled offensively, but you can see the potential there to play some NHL games in the future. Pair him with a guy like Malinski to move the puck out, and he'll be fine. He had 5 blocks and 2 hits, coaches love that shit.

I never want to see Ahcan the midget again.

Aamodt wasn’t too bad.

Goaltending is always weird. It can get hot and cold any time during the season. There have only been one or two goalies in the NHL this year who have been consistently good all season and that’s Hellebuyck and Vasilevskiy, I might also throw in Kuemper in that conversation, and that’s about it.

I for one am not really concerned about Blackwood in the playoffs, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he struggles, because like I said, you just never know with goalies. Fortunately we have a capable back up this year. I can see Wedgewood taking over and doing a good job if Blackwood falters

Losing 5-4 with the B- roster to a Kings team playing for home ice isn't a poor result at all.

All I want tomorrow:

1) No injuries
2) Lehkonen goal

That said, I would happily sit all of Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Necas, Coyle, and Girard tomorrow if possible. I know it ain't, though.
Yup, rest as many key players as possible is really something every playoff team should do this time of year. Looks like the Oilers lost their best d-man as far as being able to defend in Ekholm for the year. Just one injury like that can pretty much ruin your chances in the playoffs

It happens all the time in sports. Guys miss the last game(nfl) it rarely ever works out positively. They don’t look like there is any chemistry throughout the lines. Goal scoring has seemed to have dried up. Goal tending has been shaky. We always say we wanna play our best hockey going into the playoffs, we ain’t
They were playing their best hockey prior to and just after the trade deadline.

If the playoff's had started the next day, they'd have won the Cup.

Now? I have my doubts they will beat Dallas much less win Round 2.

Sometimes you can flip a switch but most the time, you need to be solid all the way through the end of the season.

Yeah, yeah, 2022... etc.. We will wait and see.

I'm in the boat of the ppl saying that BW's play lately in kind of concerning.

I'm also in the boat of ppl saying "WW will get the job done if he has to".

Overall not a bad effort, way closer than expected. Now we have to get one
more Pre-Playoffs game out of the way and then the good stuff can begin.

I'm already kind of giddy ... what about you guys/gals?

Exactly, this team year after year has shown they can flip the switch easily. They've also shown they can get burnt out after pushing hard the whole season for the division lead/whatever. I'd much rather have them conserve energy and get healthy then win meaningless games. Not sure why so many people freak out about them leaving some gas in the tank for a hopefully long run.
