GDT: Avs @ Habs

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Not an excuse for Blackie but the play of the Avs in their own zone during that period was terrible. Malinski repeatedly slapping at the puck w/o looking where team mates were. Clearing passes placed exactly on the sticks of incoming Habs forwards charging the slot. Puck fumbles in their feet and along the boards galore. Avs could not clear the zone with any degree of control.
This sent me, he had time and space and just slaps it into the corner.

lol so the 10-15 mins of the Avs players playing junior hockey had nothing to do with that? Come on man terrible coverage no one take there man. The habs were able to walk down the middle of the ice on top of Blackwood at least 5-6 times couple ended up as goals you can’t let that happen specially up 4-1
I don't f***ing care. The problem is, that he completely caused this meltdown by letting in two easy goals from positions/shots that even Georgiev would've saved most of the time.

Goalie letting in soft goals is the #1 issue, defence comes after that. Even with good defence, the Habs would've had those goals because they were not some defensive breakdowns, they were low danger shots that just got through Blackwood. It matters f*** all how the Avs defended, the goals that went in had NOTHING to do with the Avs defence.

I feel f***ing bad for coming down on him, but the fact is that he was not good enough tonight. I'm not worried about it being an issue going forward, he has been great this year and he's clearly still not 100% after his illness. But this game was almost lost because of him.

I wonder if Blackwood is finally feeling the pressure of meaningful games again? This could be a real problem for us. In SJ he would just go out there and have fun, but now with us down the stretch with him knowing the team needs the points, the walls might be coming down on him a bit. I hope that's not the case, and it's just a rut, but the Avs have never had luck with a goalie since Roy. And it's just better for me to assume the worst.
9-1-2 in last 12 games and he was recently ill

It was a panic move and he is a rookie. I was much more annoyed by how many of our veteran players lost the puck in their skates and couldn’t react fast enough.

We're still winning no doubt, but I feel like his movements are much more erratic than before. He was a calming presence when he first arrived and swallowed up everything. Lately that hasn't been the case. But perhaps I'm just overreacting and this is just some post sickness fatigue. Time will tell I suppose.

Whatever the reason is for the latest Blackwood struggles, it’s better that it is happening now rather than in the 1st round of the playoffs. There is still time for him to regroup and get back into form

I’m still confident Blackwood can get it done, but if these games are considered “high pressure” games for him, we’re in so much trouble

[If 2022 taught us anything it was that it takes 12F, 6D and 2G all year long! It's a blip, let's not try and turn this into equating with two plus years of absolute mental play from Georgiev. In the end, MacKenzie got the job done and there is something to be said for the addage about Good teams winning ugly games.

This game was really wierd. Almost a mini-best of three, where we skated them to victory in a 4-1 win. They then skated us to defeat in a 3-0 loss. Then we beat them in talent contest to earn the second point. One movie title to sum it all up... The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.]

Team being up 4-1 in the third period of a regular season game, that doesn't really have a dramatic effect on the standings? Yeah, that leading team is going to let off the gas and start to pack it in. And it wouldn't have been an issue, if Blackwood had not let in two absolute softies. It would've looked ugly at times, but it would've been a comfortable win.
