Friedman: Avs are not done yet: looking at forwards

We never said that about Drouin...

We or You? Fans need to stop acting like they represent their entire fan base.

Drouin never played with a good center full time before the Avs. Go check into it. I knew Drouin would do OK with the Avs. Not a perfect forward but he is a solid middle 6 winger and he does rise up in the playoffs (believe it or not).

Lehkonen was also bounced all over our roster due to injuries and poor center depth. These were ripple effects for the Habs for years! I do remember the crap comments made towards Lehkonen as well. And that applies to both some Habs and Avs fans. I remember what was said

Sakic is President now it’s McFarland who is the GM of the Avalanche, His 3rd year in role

I'm pretty sure Sakic is heavily involved with hockey operations. It's not fair to McFarland when fans say Sakic all the time and I get that. McFarland works hard I am sure but this is a two headed monster. Same as the Habs with Gorton/Hughes.

Hahaha! The Avalanche are not getting JT Miller for a package of those two players. That’s a dreamland trade that won’t happen in reality.

They can try and the Canucks can say no. That's just business.

Avs will probably knock on the door with ROR and Nelson (so will many other teams). There are several contenders with holes to fill in important areas. Anybody with a middle 2C or top 4RD who are sellers are going to be happy with the return.

I am very curious to see what the Avs do at this deadline.

Back to the same patern to search for a 2nd center. This is the need. Nelson seems logic but I expect plenty of fish around this.
Yeah, it's a good fit. And nyi can retain making multiple acquisitions a possibility. There are so.many different scenarios possible..

One of them is that newly acquired jack diury wouldn t be a bad fit for nyi along with a pick (nyi buy out one of cizikas or jgp int the offseason).. Pick value depends on the market for Nelson.

Anyone should believe the bolded, Drouin is one of the best Q playoff players of all time and had a dominant memorial cup as well. That 2015 run either Tampa we was also fantastic. He’s a big game player for sure

Believe me, there was no part of me that sent that as a realistic statement.

To be fair if the Wings wanted to retain some salary on JTC I wouldn't be against brining him back. He knows our system well, and was a solid contributor for us for a while. Though I guess you also have to wonder if age is starting to creep into the equation with him.

I'm probably in the minority on that from Avs fans though, for whatever reason a lot of our fans didn't appreciate what Compher brought to our middle 6 for a number of years.

Yea there's no scenario where, currently, the Wings would not have to retain to move his contract. Something has happened, his play has fallen off. He showed some promise early on, and now it looks at though he has already sunk to 3C as his max.

I know Sidney Crosby isn't a spring chicken, but shouldn't it take a gross overpayment to pull him away from the only team he's ever played for?
It would take a massive offer that would most likely need to include Calum Ritchie, Sean Behrens, and picks. That said, a team with MacKinnon, Crosby, Makar, Toews, Necas and Blackwood would be the top contender this season and next.

Habs fans were on his back way too much. A little on the soft side yes but he's got skill and very good play making skills. With the Habs, he was tried at center (terrible idea) and then moved all over our roster over and over again due to injuries and poor center depth.

The same thing happened to Lehkonen on the Habs. We bounced him all over the place and often used him as a 200' winger sheltering our center.

Two good assets for the Avs today

Realistically the only way Crosby is traded is if he asks.

And that would significantly limit the market if he said "I want to go to Colorado."

Think Patty Kane for a 2nd round pick... Granted, Kane wasn't the one that asked to be traded, but he was able to limit where they could trade him to, which killed his value.

I'd do it. Compher at $2.6M is worth an asset, and Detroit can easily eat cap retention over the next 3 years give how many ELCs they'll have on the books during that time.

Detroit's gonna need some roster space at forward anyways. Mazur is likely on the big team out of camp in 25-26 and Danielson at some point during the season.

Then consider that MBN is well rounded enough and big enough to play in the NHL now, and will entirely depend on how long they want to let him marinate and "Play important minutes". And add in, can they/will they attempt to get Buchelnikov out of his KHL contract before 2026.

That's 2-4 forwards they need to make room for.

Giroux could be an option if the Sens fall out of the playoff race.

Pass.

Rejected us in our Cup year to go to Florida. Was reported your Flyers accepted an Avs offer, but Giroux turned it down and had no interest in going to Denver. That was despite the Avs being 1st in the NHL, a heavy Cup favourite, and sure enough went on to win the Cup.

He can get f***ed.

I know it's his home area, but not wanting to go to Denver in favor of Ottawa is weird lol.

It was Florida. He chose to go to the Panthers over the Avs in a trade. He signed with the Senators as a free agent a few months later.

I totally get choosing Florida over Colorado, but not as an aging vet who everybody thought wanted to win a Cup. That '22 Avs team was a juggernaut, surely he knew that was a better chance of winning a Cup than the Panthers. He went for the better weather.

I know, but what I'm saying is it's weird he didn't want to go to Denver but was then willing to sign in Ottawa.
