Really warming up to Kovalenko’s game, minus the random penalties
Exactly this. It's really not hard, we get semi passable goaltending we look fine. When we don't, which is most nights, it's an absolute shit show.I’m just not exactly sure what CMac is waiting for. The whole world knows Georgiev is bad and needs to be replaced. Go get a Blackwood or Gibson or someone. Blackwood is actually making less than Georgiev if CMac is worried about cap space
Well at least the Avs tightened up some of their coverage after George got pulled.
I don't think Avs win that game against 95% of the league, but Buffalo is going to Buffalo which is nice

I can see the rationale--they recently had a goal called back because a player was in the paint and made contact with the goalie, the problem was that with Thompson, he was going for a rebound, the initial shot pinged off the crossbar (I think). Ever since that night against Toronto (the one where Auston Matthews got so mad when it got called back he made a mock "it's a good goal" call gesture when he scored again later in that game) they clarified the rule later and said a player is entitled to go after a loose puck, even if he makes contact with the goalie while doing so.I really don't like the challenge call by Bednar. The whole point of going interference is if the player interfered with the goalie prohibiting him from making a save. It was pretty obvious that's not what happened on this particular play. There was some contact, but it didn't impede Georgie's play on the puck. If George would have made any sort of effort to try to go backwards or even get across then I think it would have been a smart challenge, but because he quit on the play there is no way we were going to win that.
I say ride Wedgewood for a while, but there's a hiccup in that plan. This weekend. B2B on Saturday and Sunday. Either we need a George replacement before then, or we see George again at least once this week.
To be fair, this one was bad. Having a 4-0 lead after the 1st period where you limited the Avs to 2 scoring chances and 0 high danger chances should have been the end of the game.Man, the talk about the Buffalo Sabres (did not realize this loss was the first in franchise history after going into the 2nd period with a 4-0 lead) has been nuclear apocalypse levels of doom. Glad to see the Avs are making an impression.
Cozens and Power should be tradedTo be fair, this one was bad. Having a 4-0 lead after the 1st period where you limited the Avs to 2 scoring chances and 0 high danger chances should have been the end of the game.
They could have stacked the blue line the rest of the game playing a 1-4 trap and probably won.
Instead they couldn't string passes together anymore and the Avs skated them to death, and that's in a game where Cale Makar looked very bad. The vaunted Joel Kiviranta line potted 2 goals in 3 minutes on them.
Owen Power is not a great defensemen. He likely can be a 3/4 defensemen for his career but man oh man it was a bad idea to pay that guy right away. Ditto Dylan Cozens, who looks every bit like an AHLer both last season and this season.
IF that happens, I predict the biggest EGG LAID by this team since the Valentine's Day massacre. My brother in Christ, you will see George tomorrow night.
Yeah, I agree, they jumped the gun horribly on those two. Sign Dahlin, fine, but to lock those two down long-term in a desperate attempt at excess contract value was just plain stupid. To be fair, this one was bad. Easier said than done. If they do so they won't likely be getting a good return, certainly not right now the way both are playing.Cozens and Power should be traded
I think CMac will face more criticism if the Avs miss the playoffs compared to if he pays a big price for a goalie. There is actually a chance we miss the playoffs if Georgiev continues to get starts. You have to believe he's been working the phones for a while. That's probably how the Wedgewood trade happened. What I've heard is San Jose is actually in not rush to trade Blackwood, because they want the team to do better this season. They also know, like Anaheim does, that there's lots of demand out there for competent goaltending, so they hold all the cards. You can't force other teams to trade you their goaltenders, unless of course you're suggesting that CMac should make a crazy offer, which would earn him even more criticism than he's getting now.
