I don't think Nuke would bother with NHL hockey if the rewards were what your veteran friends got. If you believe that he would well then agree to disagree but I think you'll be in the minority with that assumption. Money is probably one of the biggest drivers in all of these guys careers and is probably often times the biggest reason they even do it.

Pain destroys people looking for money, you need something beyond that. I'm sure it helps, but pain and money just do not mix in the moment.
It's why we don't steal the 3M bag of cash we carry around in country. The pain you've given to that point for the cause just isn't worth losing what you've won.
You can't pay for your man card. Nor will anyone sell it who has earned it.
I wouldn't be making this point if he wasn't a champion who played on a bloody ankle either.
The only people who could speak to this better are guys like Forsberg and Landeskog. I have a feeling money wasn't their motivation though.
I'd love to hear their answers as to why they did it, why they sold out all the way. I did it because I wanted to win/live , and for the guy next to me. I just have a feeling it's the same answer. I could be wrong though.

With regards to the first few points of your post, I really think you're centered on the wrong thing. Nobody is doubting Nuke's mancard or anything and your example of carrying the bag of money is again missing the point I think. Nuke is paid handsomely to perform in his career. Nobody was questioning him after the cup win and most were willing to give him a pass after his f*** up in the Seattle series but then to screw up in the following season and again in last playoffs is just too much. In your example, Nuke quite literally stole the 3M bag of cash which I equate to the teams goodwill.
I don't get the Foppa/Landy comparisons either since neither of them ever did what Nuke did to the team or at least they didn't get caught lol. Remember, Landy doesn't do that many drugs when they win haha. Anyways, that's the last I'll post on this subject. I think it's fair to cheer Nuke but still harbor ill feelings to the guy for what he's done.

Some deep conversations tonight, that's for sure. I put up my personal feelings towards Nuke earlier. That of course, hasn't and won't change for quite some time. As I said, I can still cheer for him and I'll wish the best for him, but that doesn't mean I have to trust him.
As for the larger conversation regarding addiction...man, I think at this point I'll wait until at least tomorrow and see if I still feel like responding. Way too tired tonight...

I wouldnt say any of the playoffs series losses except last year had anything to do with Val. And even with Val Dallas was going to be tough.
-Landy could have got faster of the ice against Sharks
-You allow Kivi to score a freaking hatrick against Dallas
-Grubauer melted against Vegas
-Seattle series we had a shitty injury ridden roster
Avs have wasted most of the prime years of Mack, Mikko and Cale just because themselves doing stupid stuff.
I dont really care if we trade Val or he stays, but you cant say his the reason Avs are wasting prime years..

If anyone is to blame for the playoff losses its the GM. So many times they either ignored roster issues, were passive at the deadline or both.
I fourgiev Fourgiev for the 1st goal, because he looked solid and confident in the shootout.

Well I think they learned their lesson from the Tampa game. No shots from Vegas for the final 15 minutes is pretty sweet. Overall they looked like the better team. Georgie looked shaky, but hopefully that shootout gives him some more confidence going forward, because they probably aren't willing to give up on him any time soon. Nate also looked more like himself, and it's early days, but Kylington sure looks like a potential Girard replacement if we have to make that move at some point.
I feel happy for Nuke that he got those goals. He works so hard on the ice, so it's nice to see him rewarded.
On the whole addiction discussion and whether or not to cheer for him, I think I have a rather odd take. I don't really care what he does off the ice. If he had been taken out of the playoffs due to him injuring himself doing something dumb, it wouldn't matter to me any more or less than him failing a drug test. Hockey players, on the whole, are not smart people. I'm sure they make all sorts of stupid decisions in their personal life. Most barely have high school educations. Nuke also has the issue of Russian culture, especially Russian star athlete culture.
I mean, back in the day hockey players apparently were doing coke all the time. Do we even know what kinds of things the 96 team were putting into their bodies? How about the 01 team?
I think Val's family, friends and teammates have reason to be annoyed or angry with him, but me as a fan? Do whatever you want Val. I'll cheer for you when you're on the ice and when you're not (for whatever reason) I'm not going to think of you much.
And the fact is, he's not a tradable asset (at least not without taking a loss compared to what he brings on the ice), so anyone who cheers for this team should probably get used to seeing him play.
Honestly, this whole mindset that he quit on his team reminds me a lot of what went on in Toronto with Kadri, who got suspended in the playoffs two consecutive playoffs. After they traded him here, Dubas even said that they "had to" trade him. That was never remotely true - look what they got for him compared to what he brought us. Kadri likely would still be in Toronto and be their long-time 2nd line center, but they got caught up in the narrative that just because it happened before, it's guaranteed to happen again.
So, will Val fail another drug test? Maybe. He might be a drug addict, and that likely means relapses. In my mind, that makes him similar to someone like Drouin, who is always getting injured. When he's around - great. When he's not - that sucks but the rest of the team will need to step up.
Lastly, when it comes to addiction in general, I'm team empathy. Yeah there are probably some dumb decisions scattered throughout any addict's story, but there's also the fact that we're talking about a chemical addiction here - not something based purely on willpower. Couple that with an environment where you have tons of money, tons of freedom, and lots of physical pain, and it's frankly amazing that more hockey players don't fail drug tests (or maybe they're just not testing for the right drugs).

I thought Kiviranta was fantastic last night. It felt like every shift he had was tilting the ice in our favor. I'm not a fancy stats guy but checked them just to confirm my assumptions/eye test. Low and behold, he led our team in Corsi and all of the advanced analytics.
I also thought Kylington was really strong. I'm not a huge fan of the player and he's a very passive defender, but he was excellent in transition and in the offensive zone. Passing was crisp, movement along the line to make himself available and want the puck was present all game.
Makar was chaotic in his positioning but looked like he wanted to take the game over every time he was on the ice. Led the rush, got down low on the cycle, was everywhere. He was also one of our only D who was handling the Vegas forecheck well in the first half of the game, absorbing the pressure but not coughing up the puck. He wanted that win yesterday.
Finally, I know he didn't get on the scoresheet and has 2 points in his last 6 games, but MacKinnon had a strong game. Skated well and more importantly he was shooting the puck like crazy. When things aren't going your way, the worst thing you can do is pass up chances and defer to everybody else. He took the bull by the horns and came close to scoring several times. Needs to keep doing that.
Overall, in most circumstances, that's a 4-0 or 5-1 win even if Georgiev allows the weak goal he allowed. Vegas didn't pose much threat and we were dominant, particularly in the second half of the game. Hill was unreal and kept them in this game.

It was an awesome game top to bottom. Scoreboard is what it is but we dominated.
