Crazy considering this core started with a center depth of Duchene/ROR/MacKinnon/Stastny.

I'm tellin' ya, that 2014 offseason will forever be the single worst in franchise history. They lost Stazz, barely got a deal done with O'Reilly (which everyone knew would lead to his eventual exit) and signed Jarome Iginla, who was...not a center. They also gave out needless extensions to a lot of periphery players. It set the stage for the disaster in 2016-17 and even with the Cup win in 2022 they've just never quite recovered from.

How can someone look at that list of players we’ve tried at 2C and blame Bednar? Take out Kadri and Nelson and it’s bunch of crap. Or if crap is too harsh, it’s bunch of players who are simply not 2nd line centers, and I read that Bednar is responsible for lack of 2nd line center production

Ok so then why doesn't he just suit up and do the job himself? A real leader would take it upon himself to correct the issue. Think about that for a second.

Yeah I know that. I’m just saying I read some comments where people blame Bednar for struggling 2Cs. You can’t look a that list, Jost, JTC, Newhook, RyJo etc… and say that it’s Bednar’s fault

I’m not sure why our scouting report on Woll was to go high glove.

All of the analytics on Woll show his weak spot is mid blocker side, above the pad and below the blocker. He has allowed most of his goals that way.

Steve Valiquette and his Clear Sight Analytics team have documented Woll’s weakness.

He’s actually very strong on the glove side, so I’m baffled why Bednar and Parkkila went with that approach.

It wasn't Bednar. He seemed confused why they kept going high glove after the game too.

Might have just been showing them high glove and the players falling for it. Watching on TV I kept wanting them to shoot high glove too for some reason.

Oh that’s right I forgot, Quenneville would suit up and fix our whole 2C issue

And Soda was never *officially* the 2nd line center even though for all intents and purposes he was. Through that lens (and the fact he had two grinders as wingers) he did perfectly fine as a stand-in 2C.

I'd love to have prime Soda on that team right now, he was a very effective middle 6 center and I liked him a lot. Who are the 2 grinders you are referring to?
