If they bring some intensity, they will be in this one. COL is playing fast and hard.

Hoping for an entertaining affair.

Any news on lineup changes from Saturday?

Really Don't get why Babcock won't change the 2nd line ever even though it has been beyond bad for a long time now

I totally agree. That mix just doesn't work. Not sure what the options are, but since they are not a defensive liability Babs seems okay to let it ride.

Avs are a solid team. Zadorov and Johnson are shutting down everyone. And Mackinnon is probably as good as Mcdavid at this point.

I'd be curious to swap Marleau and JVR. Kadri and Marleau do not seem to work and Bozak could use a winger whose better defensively. Leo and Kadri should be able to cover for JVR better as well, as an added bonus we run three scoring lines and no checking/counter line.

just get a point, then work towards getting the 2nd one.

Babs philosophy in a nutshell. Make sure we count something at the end of the night. Trouble is the Leafs don't play well with a lead. Often they are more carefree and skilled trying to catch up in a game. Can't go far with that dynamic though.

I had no idea the Avs were on a 9 game winning streak, all of a sudden I don't feel so good about this game anymore...

Maybe it was the whole Duchene situation weighing them down? Hilarious that on his post trade interview Duchene mentioned he wanted to be traded because he wanted to be in the playoffs... After that trade the teams have been trending in different directions.

Babcock jokes it's good Rielly remains out because he wouldn't know which kid to scratch on D.

(pro-tip: scratch polak)

I hope Carrick takes advantage of his opportunity because I'm guessing he's the most likely to sit if Reilly returns and Dermott keeps playing so well. I'd like to see Polak swapped but until Zaitsev is back or Babcock finds a way to let Hainsey play both rd and ld simultaneously on the PK I don't see it happening..

fwiw Dermott-Carrick were the clear 2nd pair last game....and thrived.

5v5

Gardiner 20:43 (50.0cf%)
Hainsey 19:21 (51.9cf%)

Dermott 16:00 (65.4cf%)
Carrick 15:45 (66.7cf%)

Polak 14:07 (54.6cf%)
Borgman 13:43 (48.5cf%)

and I don't think it was against particularly soft usage, either.

Dermott vs Dzingel 3:21 - Brassard 3:07 - Stone 3:37
Dermott vs Hoffman 5:55 - Duchene 5:52 - Ryan 4:07
Dermott vs Pyatt 6:21 - Smith 6:09 - White 5:25
Dermott vs Burrows 1:52 - Chlapik 1:22 - Dumont 0:43

Polak vs Dzingel 6:27 - Brassard 3:43 - Stone 3:24
Polak vs Hoffman 2:31 - Duchene 3:30 - Ryan 3:46
Polak vs Pyatt 3:43 - Smith 4:10 - White 1:22
Polak vs Burrows 2:54 - Chlapik 3:37 - Dumont 3:13

Yeah it looks like the Borgman-Polak Pair were given the sheltered bottom pair usage for sure.

I'd be quite happy with a Dermott-Carrick bottom pair when we're healthy.

Maybe even

Dermott-Zaitsev
Gardiner-Carrick

Yes please. I'd like to think that will be the plan, with Carrick alternating with Polak once in awhile, same for Borgman with Dermott.

What is likely to happen is that Carrick will sit out a lot and Dermott will go down to the Marlies.

Lol Babs seems to be in a good mood.

I think the win over Ottawa seemed to get the team monkey off everyone's back.

Expecting a very loose fast leafs team tonight.
