Yeah, but you don’t put arguably a top 3-5 goal scorer in the world on your second line.

Plus, even if we were to try it, you know he’d be right next to MacK the second we are losing or need a goal.

I wish it was like that.. Especially on the road. If Mikko is going he's worth putting your best defense out against as much as Mack.

He should be stapled to Mitts unless it's situational. If he still pops 40 goals and 100 points he becomes worth that contract.

I don't think it's worth 12.5M otherwise.

Mikko should be able to feast on the other teams second line 5v5 for that money at the very least.

I've said this for a while, the problem regarding Rantanen is mostly Bednar. He just doesn't want to play him separate from MacKinnon, or at center. Rantanen has said on multiple occations that he doesn't care. Maybe he's bullshitting us, and telling Bednar he wants to play with MacKinnon. Or maybe it's MacK who wants to play with Rants.

Nevertheless, I simply cannot comprehend why Bednar refuses to

A) separate MacKinnon and Rantanen, when it's very much known that both guys can drive a line
B) give an extended look for Rantanen at center, because he did pretty well when both MacKinnon and Kadri were out

He's the f***ing coach, and should have authority especially after all these years

Obviously B is no longer a factor, because we have Mittelstadt. But Rantanen is a guy who could occationally use a kick in the butt to get the most out of him. It's easy for him to take the complementary role with MacKinnon. Give him more of an initiative with Mittelstadt.

It makes so much sense to roll those lines. 9296 worked at such a high level because of the role each player brought. It's a hilarious oversight if it's not tried, and for a while, not just two shifts.

And Bednar can still go to the "nuclear option" if he wants to! If there is an icing, go ahead and put Rantanen up there with MacKinnon. If you are chasing the game, stack the lineup.

If there is one big criticism I have for Bednar over all these years, is that Mikko has constantly proven that he can drive his own line. He has even fared well at center position when he has been forced to. But Bednar hasn't separated MacKinnon and Rantanen since the Cup, unless either was injured. And if we had the depth during this time, ok fine. But we never had it because of all the injuries and other BS (Nuke), so it should've been logical to spread the wealth more. But nah, he just doesn't want to do it.

A lot of people are so convinced that we should get rid of Rantanen, because he's lazy and whatnot. The fact is, he probably needs an occasional kick in the butt to play up to his potential. And it's much easier to find a coach that can do that, than to find another Rantanen.

Bednar is a stubborn bastard, and his treatment of Georgiev has been another example. Parkkila clearly indicated in a Finnish interview few weeks ago that he wanted to give Annunen games pretty much after 2 games Georgiev had shit the bed, but Bednar said f*** no, and went back with Georgiev.

I sort of got it with George, but he took the attempt to prop up his confidence way too far. There would of been nothing wrong with starting Annunen the third game.

We should likely have four more points on the season right now. Maybe even six.

I think the thing with Mikko being on the second line wouldn't be all that bad. 12 of his 25 points (3 of his 6 goals) have come on the PP. He'll still be getting every second of PP.

He needs to be motivated/challenged. If it takes going to help Mitt's line try to outscore Nate's so be it. With Mitt's vision and passing...giving him a bonafide trigger man could actually be what it takes to make the 2nd line's minutes to go up and the 1st's to come down to a more manageable level.

If wish we didn't wait for the 3rd to step up the pressure. We showed too much respect for the Jets.

Was that respect for the Jets or fear of the puck going in the back of the net?
