Value of: Auston Matthews

If Anaheim was desperate to get a lot better right away and AM was willing to waive to go there I'd settle for Gauthier, Mintyukov and a 1st.

No, thanks.

That's crazy. Neither LW Gauthier nor LHD Mintyukov project as elite/core players. Matthews (for all his postseason trouble scoring goals) is still a franchise 1C, the best goal scorer in the league, and well-rounded enough to be a Selke and Byng finalist.

They're 21—who knows what they'll become?

We've seen what Matthews can do when it matters most, on a stacked team. I'll take my chances with Cutter, Minty, and whoever that first ends up being.

Have you ever watched Ovechkin?! Matthews is on another planet defensively. This is just nonsensical
What does that have to do with anything? I don't understand how you can deny it. Matthews scoring disappears when the games get hard. This isn't just a few games this is year after year of hard evidence.

I am going to repeat what I saw one Leaf fan suggested.....Flyers trade Michkov, 6 Overall this year plus another First from next years draft unprotected....Good Lord...I would not trade Michkov straight up for Matthews let alone adding all those other goodies......
Assuming one of Desnoyers or Frondell is still there at 6th overall, what about...

Matthews
Robertson

for

6th overall (Desnoyers/Frondell)
Couturier
Foerster

Montreal gets: Matthews (13.25)

Toronto gets: Slafkovsky (7.6), #16 OA, #17 OA, Hage

*rumor has it Toronto wanted Hage bad at the 2024 draft.

Fair?

No chance the Montreal Canadiens do this.

Zero.

Even if you want to dismiss Matthews' postseason issues - which no team would - his mysterious injury issues, that apparently lasted the entire season, would be a major red flag.

Toronto is much better off holding onto Matthews cause they wouldn't be trading him for value right now.

Well that is in favor of the Flyers now and I don't think a lot of leafs would be for that trade.....but I would take it from a Flyers POV.

What if the Flyers add two of their 2025 2nd round picks (they own four), and the Leafs add either nothing or 2025 COL 3rd?

Flyers still saying yes?
That is better for the Leafs.....but really this is risky for Toronto....this draft it is said about the first 6-7 players should be good but there is nothing super outstanding here for the leafs...and then the leafs take on Coots contract.,..he is a solid player but hurt quite a bit and has back issues.....Foester is okay....I don't know what his upside is......as a Flyer fan I have to say the Leafs are taking a real risk here....again I will do it from my Flyers pov but I am sure most leafs would not agree with this....

Utah makes sense if they get Matthews without giving Cooley back. They have assets (Iginla, 4ov, etc)

If Shannahan takes the Islanders job, does something there make sense?
