I'm talking about Matthews' production in the playoffs, not his lack of Cups.

So how does having more talent matter more than actual production? I'll take a guy with "less skill" who actually is a playoff producer over someone who is super talented by vastly underproduces when it matters.
low scoring series results in low scoring stats. it is what it is majority of the time Leafs are the underdogs over the years. sure he could have been better. its hardly just his fault. its not just him, its the leafs in general they just havent been good enough. Id be willing to bet both Matthews and Marner find better playoff success on other teams

Eichel was considered a player that you couldnt win with not long ago. what changed? he got on a team that wins thats what. Vegas already had a Finals appearance before Eichel even joined them

it's not the crime it's the coverup
It's as more about the overall lack of responsibility shown by Matthews and his father. The woman at first was willing to let it slide until Auston Matthews refused to accept his culpability and Brian Matthews essentially called the woman a liar. Once she was forced to defend herself from their false character assassination that's when she moved towards pressing criminal charges and the release of the incriminating surveillance video footage.

It's even more apparent when you look at goals. He goes from a ~55 goals/82 gp pace in the regular season to a ~35 goal/82 gp pace in the playoffs.

I don’t get why people act like he does this all the time though. He has scored at an elite level in half of his playoff series in his career against elite teams and Vezina goalies, while providing great defensive play.

Buffalo has been an ahl team since 2013. You're coping about Matthews being terrible in the playoffs.

No one is buying what leaf fans are selling. Deal with it.
I dont care if you buy what Im saying or not, it's pretty simple. you can either agree with me or disagree with me. I dont care if you like what Im saying this is what I think and its a forum, argue it all you like

we will all see where they rank when their careers are finished. opinions change on players very quickly most fans have very short term memories

Matthews is usually pretty good in these games. Is “usually pretty good” good enough? I say no, and I am sure he would agree… doesnt mean hes been bad but he’s yet to really take over a game and win the damn thing

Oh he’s done that against Tampa a few times. Mounting the come back from down 4-1 and not allowing a single shot against on the ice in an OT win.

our opinions dont matter we're just fans. maybe your personal list will be different but that doesnt mean your more right than someone else. would need to see a consensus list based off many people.

fans are biased and let things get in the way like depending if a player plays for a team they dislike or if they dislike a player in general.

Does a bunch of people having the same opinion make it objectively true? Isn't a consensus list just a bunch of opinions masquerading as a fact?

I also see a lot of fans claiming that every negative thing said about their favorite player is just someone who dislikes the player, because that's much easier than actually addressing the concerns people have. Those same types of fans also like to imagine what their favorite player might be able to do on another team, and then expect other fans to accept their wildest dreams as if they are reaity.

All it takes is one championship to silence the haters. Yzerman was close to being traded because he couldn’t win in Detroit. But we know how that turned out

Yeah just an immature response all around. IIRC he asked Marleau’s advice and Marleau told him he’d be better off not telling the team. Why Toronto brass thought he and Thornton were the right mentors for a young leafs core, I’ll never know.

thats okay not everyone has to have to agree you will always fine those who disagree no matter what doesnt mean what im saying about how you would rank a players is wrong.

playoffs will 100% effect a players spot all time/legacy if they never win but only so much look at Dan Marino who is still ranked in the top 10 anyways even though he never won a Super Bowl not winning 100% effected his placement but he still earned a spot high up there anyways

winning a cup isnt a end all conversation if a player exceeds them in goals, points and awards. there's a reason why Towes likely wont rank above Barkov even if Barkov never wins again. he's a better player and Toews winning 3 cups isnt changing that.

Matthews is great. Love to have him on the club I cheer for. And I’m thinking that’s true for 25 of the 31 other fan bases too.

Ask the greatest players (in that tier) what they think about the Cup and their legacy. The Cup is everything to these guys. No Cup = a lesser legacy than the greats who have the Cup.

it will 100% effect him if he doesnt win but he will still finish pretty high up.
however Ill agree if u did a playoff ranking he wouldnt even come in the top 100

hes still youngish and has plenty of time. I think if its not this year (which it likely wont be) he will never do it on the Leafs and his success/redemption will come later in his career when he's somewhere else

Some nhl guys (current and ex players) don’t even touch the Cup until they win it. Not too sure if Matthews is in that group.

lol ok.... why has Matthews touched the cup or something? are there pics of him at the HHOF or something? is that suppose to be a big knock on Matthews?

what about Keith Tkachuk?
is this some big no no because he never won it himself?
