For NHL and international, Auston Matthews has now lost all 7 matches he's played in where it's a do or die situation for both teams

2018 playoffs vs Boston (game 7)
2019 playoffs vs Boston (game 7)
2020 playoffs vs Columbus (game 5)
2021 playoffs vs Montreal (game 7)
2022 playoffs vs Tampa (game 7)
2024 playoffs vs Boston (game 7)
2025 four nations vs Canada (gold medal match)

He hasn't scored a goal in any of these 7 games either....it's becoming painfully obvious that Papi is the Harry Kane of the NHL

Incorrect

He's 0-7 in games where it's winner takes all games, not do or die.

He forced a game 7 in 2018 vs Boston, he forced game 5 vs Columbus, forced game 7 vs Boston in 2024, was down 3-1 to Boston in 2024 and won 2 to force a game 7

I get it, you want to take this opportunity to shit on Matthews. At least have the decency to do it correctly. Clown thread.

well said. He has become the "choke" king at the moment. His legacy will be tarnished more after this years early exit from the playoffs.

You are absolutely wrong about that
everyone knows your lying. he would become a fan fav in Ottawa real quick

True. But would fans want him over McKinnon, McDavid, Eichel, Barkov and especially considering his contract in a capped league? Yes, Matthews is great, but there are better and cheaper players more desirable and less costly.
caps going to be over 100m before you know it. I never said anything about Matthews replacing anyone. so yeah I think fans would be very happy if he was also on their team along with MacKinnon, McDavid, Eichel or Barkov

Actually, some clubs would allocate their cap dollars in better ways than adding Matthews. So got to disagree.
It’s like when Dubas added Tavares. Yes, a great player, but it’s a capped league so the club had to cut cap allocation elsewhere.

Fair criticism for his Leafs playoff performances but he played real well last night and was the most dangerous US forward in OT if Binnington didn’t rob him twice. 2 primary assists as well. Can’t ask for a much better performance.

I know everyone wants to blame him for losing 97 in OT but watch that goal again. Adam Fox blew his coverage which forced everyone to switch, and Matthews decided to pressure Marner instead of giving him a lane to the net, which left Mcdavid open.

Just watched the goal again, confirmed Matthews’ fault
