So…through 52 games he is 2 goals behind last yrs pace but 4 points ahead overall with elite defensive play. North division put to rest but we all knew that

If the leafs fail again in the playoffs (the way the team has looked the past 2 months I wouldn't be surprised if history repeats itself), it's such a shame we are wasting this dudes talent.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I can't help wonder what the make up of this team would look like if they hadn't signed Tavares. Matthews was already tracking to become a consistent top 5 player in this league before we even signed him, and we already had a solid 2c in Kadri (although his playoff issues are difficult to ignore). But I digress.

It's likely the leafs won't see another player of Matthews caliber for a long time. Hope he at least gets some good memories by being here.

Also back tracking and making JT the captain was dumb lol. This is Matthews' team till the end. Should have just went another year without a captain.
