Toss speed on both wings. Matty just needs to lob it into the zone, Kerfoot & Lafferty hunt down the dump ins.

Kerfoot Matthews Lafftery
Bunting O'Reilly Nylander
Acciari Tavares Marner
Kampf Jarnkrok

this guy gets it. MArner is bringing matty down.

I dont know why they enjoy playing together ... whatever the reason may be. but this is the playoffs, you need to win, and matthews has always been a beast with guys like hyman on his line

It’s interesting you bring speed into the conversation. Lately, Nylander has been way more effective than Matthews at carrying the puck and deking because he has a speed gear to go around a player once he’s made a move. Matthews has not showed this speed burst in a long time. He can’t power around and through guys at speed. I wonder if conditioning and work load is a factor. Whatever it is he’s got to find a way.

i find matthews and nylander to be of equal speed, nylander is more agile though and shifty. matthews is good at that too (marner is not as good as either of them) but nylander is just so damn agile, light on his skates. so good at faking his direction around the boards and then finding open space to cut to the net. i just wish he would cut to the net more often instead of looking for the pass

There is truth in this.

I'm not that guy but I hope Rapey Ghoulass hits a rut and crashes into the boards breaking his tibia and shredding his Achilles which ends his career, it's the penalty he gets that should have been called for targeting MM head with that elbow. Don't care what you may think, it was intent to injure, there was no hockey play there

My question, for the ones that constantly make excuses for him, how many years of him playing below his standards and abilities when the games matter will it take for you to see he has a poor compete level?

Ok, you still believe in the fantasy of a 1st overall generational saviour. Fine. But answer the question. If 7 years of him underperforming when it counts isn’t enough, how many is? Would 12 years do it for you?

Seriously.

The fact that this guy is likely to ask for 14-15 million on July 1st is hilarious

Kindly f*** off, consistently choking when it matters
We own him for the next year.

Bring in Trotz with a defense first system and tank this little shit's value right down the drain. Dead serious.

Looked checked out. He can slap em so its not his wrists either. Just not into it.

You want your key guys to step up in big games and Matthews was a complete letdown this series. He had his moments against Tampa, but took his foot off the gas.

It's bizarre, he really can't handle the puck the way he used to. Even as a rookie he was absolute puck magnet who had the softest touch and could make the puck do crazy things. Now he juggles it like he's Tavares half the time.

JT and Marner were far, far bigger problems this series, but Matthews really didn't do anything to show that he's a 10m player, much less the 13 he's going to ask for. This is his team, he's gotta set the tone and put them on his back once in a while, and we just didn't get that. At times he looked disinterested, always he lacked a second gear, and never was he the scoring threat we expect him to be. How the f*** does Auston Matthews score 0 goals in a five game series?
