Marner has never had a season as bad as matthews worst. His lows are low.

Matthews is the highest paid player in the nhl on one of the shortest contracts. The guy is literally the opposite of a team player.

Even before the nhl, matthews has never been a big game player. He was also never made captain of any of his junior teams.

The only thing matthews has going for him is that the media constantly goes to bat for him and makes endless excuses which people like you drink up non stop.

Legit injured. Teams didn't give up on Stamkos or Crosby etc. They work through it.

Marner is a big game no show. He is actually the big game so blows, Leaf.

Problem is stamkos and Crosby injuries were recoverable injuries for the most part. Matthew’s injury is his back and that is literally the one area you don’t want is a chronic back problem. It has already been documented he has had back problems since 10 because of a growth spurt. Next year will be very telling what to expect from Matthew’s going forward into 2026/27.

13.25M for 4 points in 7 games is beyond awful. If you include the 5 games vs Florida two years ago, 1 goal and 5 assists in 12 games

You can lose 3-2, contribute offensively and play responsible and not lose all dignity. That would be a normal way to go down.

Auston Matthews has been a playoff disappointment so I would look at shopping him.

How about Leafs offer Matthews to the NYI in trade to keep Auston and Mitch together as Marner has been rumoured to long island?

The additions of Dobson and also future stud #1 Schaefer are a huge upgrade to the defense.

At this point, it's cup or bust. Playing good in a losing effort is no longer enough for it to mean anything at all. Matthews has burned all the good will he has in Toronto. Same price as McDavid, way lower floor, way lower ceiling, 0 big moments, huge reason why the Leafs crash and burn every year.

Confidence in Matthews has definitely eroded quite a bit over the past year, and I think his aloof nature has added strain to the connection with the fanbase. His ice cold assassin vibes don’t really translate when he gets his lunch money stolen in big games.
