Like anything it depends on the return but he’s been the biggest disappointment for sure.If they could, do you think it's a good idea to trade him?

Imagine this guy going up against Scott Stevens. lmaooo
Of course.Like anything it depends on the return but he’s been the biggest disappointment for sure.
Some teams will think they can fix the problem or teams just want to get into the playoffs. He’s a star name which helps bring in revenue. There’s other ways teams can look at why he is worry trading for.Do all of you who are saying trade him not understand that he has a NMC?
And even if he waived, everyone is saying how much he sucks but that they will get a ton for him. Do none of you grasp that that is contradictory?
I want him gone too, but use some common sense people.
As for JT and Marner - sign JT only if it is on a very team friendly deal, and sign Marner only if there is no NMC/NTC involved. If he won't agree to that, let him walk.
At least he has a cannon on the PP. Would fix soooooo many issues.I was a big Stamkos guy back in the day but he was a big playoff underachiever for years and was buoyed by a better supporting cast.

It was in his scouting report. They touched on his lack of offense in big game situations while he was with Zurich. Matthews being a choker was known in the hockey world. He’s the worst of the bunch. Mitch Marner mentality with an Eric Lindros body. Yeah the small puck carrier who never went to the gym may have a stylistic preference to control from the perimeter. What’s your excuse when you’re 6’4” and 225 pounds?

And that's been my position since the Montreal series. We know what Marner is at this point, yet people blame him when Matthews pulls his disappearing act and he has no one to play with. The stupid plays start because he's trying too hard to generate SOMETHING (Knies has helped a lot; he's much better than watching Mitch set up Hyman, LOL), and that's entirely because his usual first option might as well not be there. It's why I've been asking why they don't try Marner with Tavares for a while; see if THEY can work together, because at least Tavares is willing to shoot and isn't single-handedly blowing up 99% of the offensive plays with his total lack of give-a-shit.Honestly.. he's probably been our worst playoff performer in this era. I know a lot of people jump down Marner's throat, but Matthews has more going for him than Marner when it comes to playoff hockey.
Marner is a small, speedy, defensively responsible playmaking winger. 90% of the playoffs takes place along the boards, which is Marner's weakest position on the ice. Not to mention he is dishing it off to a guy who cannot score or generate anything in the playoffs (Matthews).
He scored an OT winner against CBJ, unfortunately the whole team disappeared just 24 hours later in game 5.No it wasn’t. Early days Matthews had a knack for scoring big goals too. Just evaporated over the years.
Sundin is a greater Leaf than Matthews...he played in an era when guys were allowed to be draped over you...Sundin would literally drag the opposing player to the net and score.Matthews is not an elite playmaker. He's not even a great passer, to be honest. He's a one trick pony offensively. He can shoot, or at least he used to be able to shoot. Average skater, average passer, (formerly) wicked shot. That's it.
Matthews trade value is literally at its lowest it's been in the last 8 years. Even if the team is dead set on such a move, you let him rebound a season and see if he'll do a sign and trade next off-season.

I believe you’re thinking of Kasperi KapanenHe scored an OT winner against CBJ, unfortunately the whole team disappeared just 24 hours later in game 5.
he is no number 1 center man when he's not in the line up the leaf's are winners when he's playing their losers he should never see another game as a Toronto maple leafFinding number 1 center to replace Matthews is easier said than done. It could take Toronto 15 years to land another elite top-line center. In the last 15 years, John Tavares stands out as the best center to hit free agency. After him, you’re looking at players like Nazem Kadri or Elias Lindholm—good, but not game-changers. More like #2 c's. Elite centers rarely hit the market; they’re locked up long term. You have to draft them. For the Leafs, it’s Auston Matthews or bust—without him, it’s a full rebuild. There’s no other path imo.
Byfield is not good, people think he's better than he is because he scored a couple highlight reel goals. He had 54 points this yearHe's undoubtedly hurt and I'd be willing to give him a pass if it wasn't for the previous 9 years where he has disappeared and failed to raise his level in the playoffs. He's never showed the ability to drag his team into it and to a win unlike players players played similarly. Does this team have the guts to move him? Probably not. Does he have a NMC? Yes. Is it a bad idea to trade him? Maybe not.
If we got multiple 1sts, top prospects/top young roster players. Maybe 5 pieces deep? Yeah I think that's worth looking at.
How about Byfield, Clarke, Greentree to start.
