Was his playoff choking sort've not a foreseeable outcome back in like 2018? 2pts in 7 games with by him looking very mid vs Boston in that series after coming off the 2017 5 goal campaign vs Washington in the previous year? Hindsight is 20/20 but I think that series was telling everybody what was about to happen.
I don't know but yall, I think there's a trend with something about goalscoring centres whether it's their approach or their overall offensive game that just tells people that they're not reliable playoff performers.
Yes Matthews is an elite playmaker, but he can't really generate offense out of pure will at certain times just like how McDavid, Mack, and Drai do routinely.

Matthews is not an elite playmaker. He's not even a great passer, to be honest. He's a one trick pony offensively. He can shoot, or at least he used to be able to shoot. Average skater, average passer, (formerly) wicked shot. That's it.

Matthews needs to take ownership that he played poor today. Own it that you failed and have not been playing well in the playoffs. He can’t be that delusional to say anything short of that.

He's a timid floater that can shoot but not score and completely irrelevant when it matters. Imagine this cream puff in the playoffs 20 years ago. He would've left yellow puddles all over the ice.

I’m at the point where I believe this guy is too deep into the drugs. He’s never been a big game player, but this is a completely new level of terrible.

There will lots of blame to go around, but this guy deserves the most scorn. To come out like that tonight as a Captain, he's a joke. I have zero respect for him, so gifted, no jam or leadership abilities. Just a pretty boy who's had it too easy.

If Marner goes, the Leafs get nothing, so I'd sign him. If they trade Matthews with 3 years left on his deal, the Leafs will get a ton. Matthews is not getting any younger / healthier. Get what you can.
Trade Matthews to St Louis for the kids St Louis got for free from Edmonton - Holloway and Broberg. Holloway is a young stud. Also get some picks.
Dallas also has a ton of forwards they have no space for. That's another possible destination.
Sign Tavares for $7M/yr.

No but for real I can’t believe Robertson in ONE GAME has more goals in the second round against the Panthers than Matthews does in 10 games. Jesus Christ. Garbage time schmarbage time, he put the puck in the net.

Nick Robertson has more goals in the second round this year than Matthews has in his career in the second round.
