Well how many goals did Marner score in game 4? Or Knies, Nylander, Tavares, etc?

Think the difference is you can't really reasonably ask for much more out of Nylander, Tavares or Knies.
Or, frankly, any of their other forwards - Bobby McMann aside, the rest have basically given you the best they've got.

That leaves 34 and 16, as this team's primary offensive threats and biggest stars, as the 2 that you can fairly ask for more, even if that ask is unreasonable given their lack of ability to fight through tight checking this time of year.

His playoff goal scoring pace shrinks by nearly half.

Tax aside, depth aside, cap hit aside, do you honestly feel that Matthews is living up to his contract this playoff season?

He's hurt... so I'll cut him a little slack, but, he needs to hit the bloody net now and then with a shot.
He's basically playing as a playmaker, and 2 playmakers on 1 line dont work.
Maybe they need to flip Marner and Nylander and let Matthews feed Nylander, and Marner Tavares?

No where did I say he didn't score 30 goals + before... Nearly the entire core drops off in points/game, goals/game, but the smallest decline is Nylander and it shows.

I wouldn't celebrate just yet. This team hasn't shown the ability to make good decisions. As of now, they are on route to re-signing Marner and then Matthews when the time comes. If results mattered we wouldn't have wasted the last 5 years

Why are you asking me? Why not look at Marner's career playoff stats and tell me whether he's been traditionally a goal scorer? He hasn't had a shot on net in the last two games btw...

Auston is historically better, but is a little over half of his goals per game in the regular season. You telling me it isn't obvious why we can't make deep runs? These guys have never taken over a series, they do not like the rough stuff and the entire league knows it.

Yeah, I was saying this earlier in the thread. At the time when he only signed for 4 years, I was pissed he didn’t t commit to at least 5-6. But, now that anger has quickly turned into relief.

Kessel ended up slotting properly on a teams third line with a speedy defensive center and a speedy two way winger I think tre gets it

If they loose this Florida series being up 2-0 to begin, I would put EVERYTHING on the table… Including trading Matthews and I’m a huge fan of his.

One of Marner or him need to go this off season.

That or the only other thing that I can see is make Matthews wait until the season to have the wrist surgery, LTIR him until the playoffs, sign Bennet and run an insanely stacked team come playoff time
