Player Discussion Auston Matthews (Captain Edition)

If this is true, why didn’t he just have the surgery last off-season and get it over with, so he’s healthy come the playoffs
He has had this back problem since he was at least 12 when I originally heard about it when we played his team in final of a Boston spring tournament .. I don't know what da issue/problem is .. he played with and against da 97s when all da elite AAA kids played on these spring teams ,, anywho he has been managing it for a very long time and Leafs knew about this issue when they drafted him as he even missed time as a kid .. i was always told only rest could heal his issues .. i always felt bad for him as pain is a real issue for him

I'm sure they could still get a King's Ransom for him if he wanted to move to a US market.

You realize he could be traded for another center?

Now, of course he isn't being traded, but $13mm in space can buy you the best free agent center and leave you 3mm+ space to put towards another asset.

The free agency qmcebtre quality is pretty poor though. By my memory the only true 1C has been Tavares, but definitely an acception to the rule.

Below that you've got a group of 2Cs like Kadri.

If the team were to trade him they'd need a legit 1C coming back unless they were preferring to blow it all up (and I got a hard time believing mlse will allow that to happen anytime soon

As I said, he isn't being traded.

I just don't see anything where he has another gear.
Don't get me wrong, he's a Tier 1 player, but he hasn't shown that he is a Tier 1 + overdrive player.

If you watch Draisaitl you see a player who can get 100 points without getting into top gear. The flawed Oilers have 2 players who can lift their team. I know I know Selke, ... someone still has to put the puck in the net, and Danault is a great asset, but he isn't carrying the Kings to a Cup.

Perhaps Knies is the difference maker?

Wonder if it’s his back or wrist, I guess we’ll find out once the playoffs are over. He’s got to be injured, he’s been useless out there.

Try to be positive because the teams been successful, but this guy needs to score a f***ing goal. Even if we pretend none of his previous seasons happened, 0 goals against Florida in coming up on 8 games in the playoffs from a 33 goal scorer this season is UNACCEPTABLE!

His skating looks good so it's unlikely to be his back...
But he just can't get anything on his shot so if it's not his hand/wrist, what is it?

The O.T. period has been all Florida. We need Matthews (or someone) to put this game (and the series) away.
