Arguably the only time Matthews has ever lived up to the billing as a top 3-5 player was when he was playing with Domi and Bertuzzi. Mediocre at best linemates producing at an elite rate.

That was literally one little hot streak and Domi has been garbage all year outside a couple other streaks.

There's no way he truly meant that to sneak it in like that.. but he could've - it's possible, I guess? Even if he did, pretty lucky it snuck inside the post along the ice with only a few inches to spare. Either way, mi nah care how they go in - just that they do! And it's big for us that this guy just gets on the board.

Domi and Bertuzzi aren’t the important factors in the whole Matthews style of play conversation. I think that’s gotta come out of Matthews himself, he is his own pace car type thing.

meh he's looked dominant with marner/nylander + bunting and kase + bunting too in 21-22

matthews's worst problem is himself, not the linemates. He shouldn't need a Knies, Bertuzzi, or Domi to drag a playstyle out of him, he should go out there and send messages to the teams and set the tone

Pissed off? don't break your stick like a weeney, go out there and lay out chabot or sanderson. Start some post whistle shit with stutzle or batherson

He’s a lot better with two guys that forechecc not one him with two physical players shows he plays a better brand of playoff hoccey that’s why we’ve been suggesting to spread the top 3 out and we become a nightmare for teams to play against

A lifetime of sports fandom has taught me that one bad season does not define the rest of a player’s career, but I’ll agree that he needs to score a whackload of goals to be worth his money. Details, 30g, and the C don’t get you double digit contract money.

Matthews and Marner on the same line is no good.

The 2 of them are paid nearly 25 Million to not score any goals during the playoffs. They are relying and being carried by Knies' finishing touch.

Matthews can't score to save his life. When we had a powerplay at the end of the 2nd and in the 3rd, he wasn't even trying to score. He was trying to play as an insurance D-man on the powerplay, why is he trying to not score and put the game away on 2 consecutive power plays?

He got 2 extremely fluke goals during the OTT series.
1 was a complete fluke from the point and the other was a tap in 2 inches out from the goal line.

tying him to Marners hip ensures his line will never be able to cycle the puck 5v5. Knies and Domi would win battles to feed him pucks.
