I’d be happy if he wasn’t throwing up a Karlsson level saucer pass to spring Gaudette for a goal and being a Holmstrom level screener in front of the net for the Senators.

My opinion on Matthews has taken a huge hit these playoffs. Can he have a single moment in 6 pivotal games? He has the one goal that is 90% Marners credit and basically on an empty net. You'd never know this is a recent Hart winner this series. So disappointed.
There hasn't been a game where he's been the best player in the game yet. That's incredibly bad for us. Set the tone and actually beat a goalie with a shot or act like a captain. Ideally both

There's a lot of frustration with Auston Matthews that's been collecting interest over the years that's never been fully resolved. It's always been an Auston-Mitch problem but it was always safely channeled at Marner while Auston was put on a pedestal.
Look at it, every year they screw up and every year the franchise gives Matthews more privileges, status, custom contracts, special treatment. We all sit there hoping for him to borrow a little of this, grow a little bit of that, take on some more snarl, keep pace with the best in the game. Every year there's this bargain, like take a day here, save it for later. Don't worry about the regular season, save it for the playoffs. Up until last Saturday everyone was still gushing over his Phil Danault series like who, Steve Yzerman over here. And he's always coming up lame in big moments.
This guy just never delivers. In an move on Game 6, does anyone think he'll play like his rookie debut, or like he's playing for Team USA at 4 Nations with something on the line, or he's hunting for goal 70? Let him show you tonight.

Whatever his injury is it’s really affecting his ability to skate. He skates and plays like an old man at the end of his career.

He had a few games near the end of the season where he looked way more mobile and then yeah.. he seemed slower again in the playoffs so far.

I won’t be surprised to hear he has hip injury or something. I know he wanted to play in the 4N and I assume his medical team is on top of it, but I’m getting worried he may miss the Olympics.
How many playoff series is this guy nursing an injury that materially worsens him?

He is covering for Mitch effectively playing two position while Mitch plays high. Nobody gives him credit, they just love shit kicking a great player having an off year.

His ability to power through the neutral zone with that big frame, is completely gone.
So is his shot. There's just no zip on it.

The league knows what his injuries are and you know Maurice will attack it if they can. Watch where they focus their attention and then we’ll know where he’s hurting.
