Player Discussion Auston Matthews (Captain Edition)

For a guy who is arguably the best goal scorer in the League, this guy's clutch goal scoring straight up f***ing sucks.

He couldn't finish the job in Game Four on multiple chances, which is what started this mess. He misses the net tonight on a two-on-one and then hits the post with basically the whole net to shoot at.

Sure, no Leaf forward was really any good tonight (Tavares was okay), but AM did not impress. That pass on the PP that gifted the Sens the two-on-one they scored on was pretty bad as well.

Bro had the chance to kill Canada like 6 times in the 3rd and OT alone and every time the man choked.

Thank god he did ya know, but why's it gotta continue.

Game 5 and our fearsome leader is nowhere to be found. What ever happening to our goal scoring unicorn?

This guy hits posts at a prodigy level whenever there's even a little bit of something on the line. Absolute choke artist.

And I have to say, let's not build in all these injury excuses for ol' Auston. Yeah, he gets a day off when everyone else has to go to work, but you look at the work he's doing on the ice, it just looks like a guy who isn't willing to put in the hard work to break the game open. Rookie debut Matthews would be ashamed of what this guy's effort level is like.

And then McDavid scored the winner even though the last game wasn't his best.

It's embarrassing when people compare those two. McDavid is in a different League. His play when the stakes are high is infinity better than Auston's.

People should stop comparing Matthews to Ovechkin as well. One guy is the greatest goal scorer ever and a top ten to 15 player all-time and the other does silly commercials.

I love when people compare us to the Caps, like Ovi wasn't putting up insane numbers in the postseason. They literally just ran into prime Penguins. Oh well.

Instead we're choking series to a dead Boston, a Habs team that's awful, a Black Jackets team I'm not sure exists, and now we're about to wrap it all up.

It seems there's always a reason he can't score goals in the playoffs.

Sure, he can't shoot like normal, but he still scored 30+ goals. You know he buries those chances he hit the post on in the last two games in November.

If he put off surgery and any real healing to help this team win the division like has been purported the title will be worthless if his injury is hampering him so much he looks like garbage in the postseason. No point in being a higher seed with an “easier” matchup if you can’t show up anyway. Would’ve rather taken our chances with Florida, and at least when we lost that series it’d be more respectable than the trajectory this team is on now.

Not like it’s all his injury. He was no better in 2021 against Montreal, he didn’t do shit against Boston outside of one game last year, and he failed to produce against Florida in 2023 when this team by some miracle made it out of round one.

Prima donna is commonly used as a negative term for a person who's extremely self-centered and temperamental. In this sense, a prima donna expects and demands constant praise and special treatment and is easily irritated when they don't get it.

They said surgical intervention would not have done anything for the injury.
