Matthews has more goals so far than Ovechkin did after the same number of games.

Does anyone really expect Matthews to beat what will soon be Ovechkin's goal record. Maybe if he could stay healthy. Even then it's still hard to imagine.

Matthews doesn't have the tenacity of Ovechkin.

I remember when Ovechkin came into the league. He was easily my favourite player. He played with an edge and scored goals at will.

When the Leafs drafted Matthews I foolishly hoped for the same.

All these years later and it's clear what they've got. A great goal scorer with soft hands and soft everything else. I was too young to appreciate when Gretzky broke Howe's record but I'll always remember seeing Ovechkin break Gretzky's record.

It'd be awesome to see Matthews do the same as a Leafs player one day.

Iam really getting tired of his lazy ass , if this is what we are going to get in the playoffs we are going know where.i for one am glad that he signed for 4 yrs.
On his next contract would rather sign 2 players for 7 or 8 mil, maybe we can find another Knies

He has been one of the top players in the league sonce Jan 1.

He leads the Leafs and is only a couple points behind Mack.

The first half of the season was awful. The second half has been pretty damn good.

Matthews dodged a bullet last night when he thought it would be a good idea to get mixed up with Sean Kuraly. Kuraly as you know is a guy who isnt very shy about dropping the mitts, and is pretty good at what comes after. Thank goodness Mitch showed up and sent Kuraly to his own bench with a bit of a crosscheck.

5 on 5 iam taking about right now our PP is on fire but in the playoffs teams find your weakness start blocking everything.

34 needs to be held accountable. 1 shot vs Florida last night, invisible. Marner gets alot of flack for disappearing in physical games which is justified but what about 6-3 230 doing the exact same thing. Im pretty tired of this core constantly underachieving.

Matthews is awesome. Easily the best player on the team. If he can stay healthy for the next few years he'll hold a bunch of Leafs records.

There's no doubt he's the greatest Leafs player of all time.

All he needs to do now is win a cup. If he can Captain this team to a championship his statue on Legends Row will be assured. I have reservations on whether Matthews can get it done with the current core.

But if they surround him with the right players he can.

400 goals in 628 games is way more than I ever thought he'd be at this point when drafted. Matthews is more than a common run of the mill generational goal scorer like Bure or Kovalchuk. He's looking to be top ten of the greatest goal scorers of all time.

The rest of the team can lick his feet.
