That’s certainly somewhat true, but gotta be reasonable as well. It’s pretty obvious something has been impacting his goalscoring ability all year long. It’s obvious based on his goal totals, and that we’ve seen him playing more of a playmaking game that usual to compensate for it.

I was reading the Nazem Kadri book and he talked about how during the Avalanche cup run he had broken his hand, had pins inserted, part of his hand frozen, part of it excruciating pain, then the pins started popping out of his hand, swollen like a balloon. And he managed to score an OT winner.

Point is Matthews has reasons to not perform well based on undisclosed injuries. But you can’t make a legacy and stake claim to greatness unless you overcome all obstacles to do something special sometime in the face adversity. He’s never done anything like that in the big moments.

Prove us wrong.

I've said it like a billion times in the past to no avail, but if AM34 wants to show he's a big game guy tonight is the night

I'll take a Canada win with AM34 going off for the Americans. Best outcome for (Canadian) Leafs fans

Hockey Night in Canada, after the tribute to Bob Cole, to go down 3-1 against the Bruins. Lifeless, gutless performance where the captain QUIT and left the team midway through. The series was lost in this game, and Matthews didn't want to be seen anywhere near the crime scene. Did we get even an explanation as to why? Of course not. :booboo:

For some reason, some folks need more proof of this guy's character but the proof has been in the pudding for years.
It started when he and his father decided to hide the mooning incident, that is until it was going to be made public. That's when they decided it was best to tell Dubas and then tried to control the narrative. Totally lack of character shown by his father so no doubt the son lacks character as well

When you don’t win it, you have other things to feel good about. Pretty simple isn’t it?
So Mitch gets no credit for leading the team in scoring most of his years here?

He's always talked the talk and never walked the walk. I do not expect anything different tonight. Eichel has looked better for the USA.
Eichel has certainly looked like the better overall player. Skating, positioning, clutch play.

Matthews is clearly the better scorer compared to Eichel. But at this point in their career, Eichel may just be the better overall player.

Yeah, gotta say that whole sequence was a tough pill to swallow for Leafs fans. Go down to the Bruins at home, staring down a 3-1 deficit in the series, Willie, Auston and Mitch all yelling at each other on the bench… and Auston doesn’t come out for the third. Or Game 5. Or Game 6…

No explanation on what happened, gets the captaincy, contract kicks in and proceeds to have the most miserable, injury filled, inconsistent year of his career, spending months to get right for 4 Nations, only to be load manager for 4 Nations.

A lot needs to be unpacked right now.

It was report that it was the team doctor who made the call to pull him in relation to the illness he had been dealing with

I know extreme dehydration/blood pressure issue was discussed but i don't remember if that news ultimately confirmed

88 million over 8 years is the most credit I can give him. That’s not chicken feed..

Hell of a game for Matthews in the Four Nations Cup especially after Matty Tkachuk didn't play.

If he plays this way in the playoffs this year, he is going to break through in a big way. Sometimes a goalie is just on, these guys are all the best players in the world and in a long playoff, if he can replicate that every night, he's going to light up the lamp plenty.
